Dana White: Greg Jackson Preaches Family But Really Just A Business Man | UFC NEWS

“He’s definitely to blame, too, but there’s never been a case, ever, in UFC history, where a guy didn’t step up and take a fight. I had pretty good reason to be upset. I just think, the Greg Jackson stuff — this guy — this is my philosophy on trainers, too: You need a good trainer, a guy who’s gonna be there for you, who can kinda keep you in line and keep you training and everything else, but trainers don’t make fighters. Talented fighters make trainers, and that’s a fact. The thing you have to understand about Greg Jackson, too, and I’ll say it again — I said it before — this guy’s a businessman. First and foremost, before anything — this guy is a businessman. He built a business. ‘We’re a family.’ That’s what he kept telling Rashad Evans and Jon, so they wouldn’t fight, because ‘we’re a family.’ I told Rashad and Jon, ‘He’s not your family. Greg Jackson is not your family member, okay? If things go bad for you, tomorrow, Brother Greg isn’t gonna be there for you. Is he gonna pay your bills? Is he gonna take care of your family? Your real family? No, he’s not.’ And, you saw, when it came down to it, when push came to shove, who did Greg Jackson pick? He picked Jon Jones, the guy that he believed would beat Rashad. That’s a fact. That’s a business. He’s a businessman.”

UFC president Dana White discusses his feelings on famed coach Greg Jackson last night while on the set of “The Ultimate Fighter” with FUEL TV.

  1. FACT says:

Dana White is a moron……….. How can you say talented fighters make trainers? Trainers are in place to help cultivate the talents that a fighter has and help them direct those skills in areas where they eliminate weakness. Mr. White you absouletly suck!

    • Thurgood Jenkins says:

I think your statement about a trainer’s function is absolutely correct. On the other hand, I can see Dana’s point. At the moment, Jackson is one of the most prominent trainers in the business. But he didn’t just open a gym and see an immediate influx of notable talent. As his business progressed, he began to pull into bigger and better fighters, which, in turn, made him a well-known name in the industry.

    • asldfjklasdf@123.com says:

he is not a mormon he is an atheist

    • Robert says:

Dana is definitely right. Trainers at Greg jacksons level do not make fighters. Jon jones was picked up by jackson after he already started pro mma. and jackson did not teach him the techniques or build up his wrestling skill or speed. Its the fighters determination that builds that not what greg teaches. greg keeps them sharp and makes them sharper but he does not create the blade or the will to wield it.

    • GET RID OF FITCH (forever) says:

FACT: GREG JACKSON IS A PIRATE WHO ONLY CARES ABOUT HIMSELF AND HOW MUCH MONEY A FIGHTER CANB MAKE HIM. HE WOULD SELL OUT HIS OWN MOTHER IF ANOTHER MOTHER CAME ALONG AND HAD MORE MONEY AND SAID SHE WOULD BE HIS MOTHER. ALL GREG JACKSON IS TO MMA IS A SPORTS KILLER. ALL HIS FIGHTERS THAT ARE BIG NAMES AND GREAT FIGHTERS WOULD BE SAME FIGHTERS NO MATTER WHERE THEY TRAINED. FUCK GREGJACKSON AND HIS ***** ASS GAMEPLANS OF HAVING GUIDA, CONDIT RUN AWAY LIKE COWARDS. WHAT HE DOES AT CAGESIDE HAVING HIS WHOLE TEAM AND HIS CORNERMEN SCREAM AT EVERY LITTLE MOVE FROM HIS FIGHTER IN CAGE TRYING TO SWAY THE JUDGES INTO THINKING THAT ARE DOING A 100 TIMES MORE THAN THEY REALLY ARE. NOONE IN MMA SKIRTS AROUND MORE RULES AND OPERATES IN ALL GRAY AREAS OF THE RULES. I HOPE DANA BANNES GREG’S CHEATING ASS FROM ALL UFC EVENTS.

    • magoo says:

SMH…Dana the bald headed chicken fukcer is the greedy business man! Cried like a baby bitch cause JBJ wouldn’t fight an unranked 205er on 8 days notice, cried like a baby bitch cause Machida wanted a full training camp to prepare for his second chance at Jones…sure as fans we would have liked these fighters to to take these fights on short notice, but we’re not the fighters and neither is Dana. Dana’s a money hungry mongrel that will try to put together “whatever” it takes at the last minute, and if you don’t except what big Dana White wanted…look out everything is your fault! Grow up Dana it’s a game to you, and a lively hood for the fighters, have some respect!

  2. Say, Dana says:

Jackson said that he wouldn’t corner either fighter EVEN THOUGH Evans was talking SO MUCH SMACK about him and had ALREADY LEFT THE JACKSON CAMP.
In the meanwhile, Jones remained at the Jackson Camp, continued training, and was supposed to have only Winklejohn in his corner.

Jackson didnt’ choose JONES OVER EVANS. Jackson chose to corner a MEMBER OF HIS CAMP instead of a BLACKZILIAN.

    “That’s a fact.”

  3. Tommygunnz says:

U know what Dana has a point but it’s his fault also for making such a weak card.greg Jackson is a business man??? No shit he’s in it for the$ just like Jon the homo jones, that’s not surprising at all.at the end of the day Dana should be mad at himself for making such a weak card..

  4. danielrchargers says:

i like what cesar gracie says..craig jackson is not a fighter//not a bjj black belt..he is black belt in nothing..he does nothing really well just some shit ok..so how can this guy be a trainer and invent new belt system for mma? jackson ruins fighters..he makes them fight boring and gets them scared

  5. The natural says:

Y would anyone ever defend Jackson he’s ruining the biz he’s running the UFC by fighters he coaches I was hoping he was talking bout his fam but oviously he doesn’t give a shit bout them either stop putting this guy in headlines so people who don’t no him can stop assuming he’s a good coach

  6. mmaguy says:

People are easily influenced. First off Dana is not a fighter so he crosses a lot of boundaries sometimes when he says what a fighter should’ve or should’ve have done; technically he never experienced it, especially on an elite level like that. Second Dana White has blamed EVERYONE except his colleagues and matchmakers that put that fight card together. He still could have let the show go on because it could have turned out to be a good event (even though a big name wasn’t in the main event).

Dana has a history of holding on to the superstars for too long so when you have up and coming fighters (that are legit they just never got spotlight) then some fans will not be interested in watching. If Chris Weidman was promoted about 3 fights ago then possibly he would be fighting Silva. The UFC is business and money plays a big part into everything. If it wasn’t then everyone would get a fair title shot (i.e. standard ranking structure or somewhat of a tournament style).

Everyone keeps blaming Jones for that whole show for not fighting Chael but he came off of 2 losses and did not earn a shot in that weight division. Also, other people were offered to fight Jones but they declined it as well because they felt that they weren’t ready. On the business aspect, Sonnen and Jones would have been interesting to see and would have brought in money; on the fighter’s aspect (I am a pro fighter myself) it would of been a waste of time to worry about Chael when he can just quickly rest from that previous training camp and start preparing for a tough challenge (who is in his weight class).

That’s just my personal opinion. Besides who really knows what goes on behind the scenes. I’m not Jon Jones and there could have been plenty of good reasons why he did not fight. I think the people that have jumped the bandwagon and criticized Jones for not fighting Chael, should get in there and fight him.

    • Mustardmilk says:

In a battlefield during hand to hand combat you don’t get to train to take on the person your going against. Fighters should be no different. Especially since he states he’s the greatest. If your ego is so big why don’t you show it. In competitions you don’t know who your gonna fight till its time. No training for one persons style. You fight with all your heart and try to win. If your a natural beast at what you do you should be confident. Unlike Jones who’s just greedy and has narcissistic tendacies. Picking and choosing his competition. He wants some one who will stand up and not try to take him down so he can use his enormous limbs to his advantage and keep fighters from coming in close.

    • jon jones didnt earn his shot either he was a replacement but didnt complain that he needed more time to train . And this is where you cry about how he was coming off wins blah blah it still wasn’t his turn to fight for the belt but, he did anyway. And what 2 losses was Chael coming off?

      • dana black says:

jonathan anderson you’re a dumbass. we know jon jones was a late replacement but that was after he destroyed bader (which was a #1 CONTENDER SPOT!). mmaguy probably meant to say 1 loss but I know what he means. Have you fought in the UFC? no…so shut the hell up,, and think before you speak boy

    • Baret Gibot says:

stephen bonner should have fought him

  7. ya herd says:

lol dana u finaly made a good statement witch i think is true hope greg shuts back a dana

  8. ryan M says:

“Greg Jackson is a sport killer” Dana White. How can you not love someone who is that passionate. I eat it up.

  9. Nobody says:

Im almost positive that Dana is in it for the money too. Why else is there a “UFC”? Blame jackson, blame jones, blame everybody except the person who actually canceled the event. The event was a ‘flop’ in the ufc’s eyes without Dan Henderson. There would’ve been some decent, and/or great match-ups but it wasn’t about the other fights. The only question was “will we make money”? Sonnen doesn’t deserve a fight with jones. IMO. If the UFC was structured different, then maybe jones would be in the wrong for not excepting the fight. And why didn’t they set up the fight for the 22 if he did? I could care less about this card and I miss very few Ppv events.

  10. stephen riddle says:

Yeah like jackson wouldve trained them both jones and evans btw! I dont know what to say about jones except he wouldve took this fight pre greg jackson for sure! He is not your dad jones.

  11. Unarmed Spectator says:

Greg Jackson is ruining the sport of MMA, he makes fighters fight G(First letter in the alphabet)Y… Anyone recall the Guida Maynard fight? If Jones didn’t have the talent to finish all the fighters he’s fought he’d be a boring ass mofo. Kinda like how he fought Rashad! Greg Jackson’s game plan is to win and that makes him a buisnessman, he doesn’t train his fighters to finish shit!!! Check out his stable of point fighters and tell me it’s not true. I’m just saying people don’t watch football to see teams kick f–cken field goals, the don’t watch NASCAR to see guys drive laps, they don’t watch women’s volleyball for the bumps. Oh wait they do… Think about how boring Greg Jackson has made MMA as of late!

  12. ya herd says:

Yea dana is in it for the money to thats all he cares about! how many times has he went back on his word hes a money maker plane and simple

    • Pippen says:

Everyone is tossing around the fact that chael just came off two losses so didn’t deserve the shot at jones. He just beat Brain Stann and Michael Bisping before losing to silva, WTF are you on about?

  13. Xaninho says:

Greg Jackson isn’t a great trainer. I think their camp being at a high altitude is a pretty big part of their success.

  14. Bjj BB says:

@ pippen, not two losses in a row but two tittle losses in a row and he never fought his way in up or at all in the 205 class, bisping and stann are 185, WTF R YOU ON?!

  15. Johan says:

What kind of president of an organization would bash fighters and trainers that are that are involved with the organization? Is UFC WWE? Dana needs to work on his professionalism. The owners need to fire him and hire someone who can play the background and just get the job done. Dana white is the p diddy of MMA. He needs to let the fighters and trainers do their job and keep his face out of everything and foul opinions to himself.
