Dana White: Fabricio Werdum Will Fight Winner Of Travis Browne vs. Josh Barnett Fight
Following the UFC on FOX 9 pre-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White shed some light on the future of the UFC heavyweight division.
Fabricio Werdum has stated that he would wait until UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez recovered from his shoulder surgery, but it seems as though White thinks that will not be the case.
“I met with Werdum yesterday or the day before. he’s going to fight the winner of Travis Browne and Josh Barnett,” White said. “Waiting is ridiculous.”
“I’m not interested in him waiting, he’s going to fight. Because it gets to a point where it’s been so long since he fought nobody gives a s**t,” White said. “You start to disappear and nobody cares and they start talking about other heavyweights and it’s like ‘why is this guy getting a shot when he hasn’t even fought?’ so we’re going to push him to fight.”
Werdum has not fought since June of this year, when he submitted “Big Nog” Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by armbar.
Barnett and Browne are set to face each other this month at UFC 168.
The winner of White’s suggested fight will most likely fight Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight title after Velasquez recovers from his injury.
