Dana White: Fabricio Werdum wants Daniel Cormier
If you heard of one of the latest rumors floating around about a potential Werdum vs. Cormier matchup, UFC President Dana White might know where they originated.
“Werdum was in my office two days ago,” White said on Thursday. “That’s probably where the rumor came from. That’s who he wants to fight, but we’ll see what happens.”
Dana White said nothing is set, though he didn’t close the door on the possibility of the matchup according to mmajunkie.com. But he chuckled at the idea that Werdum is the source of the rumors and helping push along interest in the potential bout.
“Werdum… leaking stuff,” he said with mock disgust.
Cormier proved he belonged in the UFC Heavyweight division when he defeated former champion Frank Mir in his debut. Since then though he has stated he will likely move to light heavyweight at some point in the future.
Werdum is on a three-fight win streak since returning to UFC and has defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Roy Nelson recently. He sits in some minds as the likely next opponent for the winner of the Velasquez vs. Dos Santos fight.
The possibility of Cormier and Werdum is very intriguing and very likely to spark a lot of interest in the possible fight. A win against each other would catapult either opponent right into title contention, and for Cormier even at 205lbs should he choose to drop after that fight.
For now we wait and see what comes to fruition with this, so stay tuned to bjpenn.com for this and all your mma news.
