Dana White discusses Super-Fight between GSP-Silva or Silva-Jones: “One of them is coming”

Super-fight. It’s a term that gets thrown around a lot by fans and experts. Arguments will erupt over who would win a fight between GSP-Silva, or Silva-Jones. By the end of the year we will be able to answer one of those questions.
Little did an unsuspecting 11 year-old boy know that he would make Dana White give the quote of the night at the Q&A for UFC Fight Club members. The little boy did not even ask White a question; he just wanted to tell him that Anderson Silva is his favorite fighter and that he would like to see him beat up GSP. He got a chuckle out of White, and the following response:
“Gsp is gonna defend his title against Nick Diaz, Anderson Silva will defend his title this summer. And before the end of this year we will soon see a super-fight with either GSP and Anderson Silva or Anderson Silva and Jon Jones. One of them is coming.”
Now White has said things in the past and gone back on his word. Nate Marquardt will never fight in the UFC again, Gustafsson gets the next title shot, and of course Women will never fight in the UFC…just to name a few. Let’s hope that everything falls into place and we see one of those “Super-Fights” takes place.
One can only hope.

I guess it’s going to be silva vs jones cause we all know gsp won’t fight up in class or silva to say the least. gsp has been ducking silva or moving up for some time now. I’d be surprised if gsp steps up, it would even be cool to see gsp fight anyone at 185, but I think he’s too conservative.
Not everyone can be like the Prodigy and fight guys 100 lbs heavier than him and still not get knocked out; I say GSP has nothing to gain and everything to lose by fighting Silva…
Some people might ask why but let’s face it.
He loses and everything about him being possible #1 P4P goes straight out of the window, Silva can reign atop his throne without even worrying
He wins and he’ll honestly be discredited for it, people would say this fight should have come four years ago, Silva is past his prime, he’s too old, GSP is too young, etc.
I just think it has to be done on his terms; Henderson had a good point, Anderson’s been known to be manipulative whether that be in a positive or negative way (despite connotation, manipulation can be a good thing).
That’s why fighters like BJ, Randy and Royce and maybe Hendo are the real P4P GOAT’s because they fought all different weight classes and BJ and Randy were 2 division champs. GSP and Silva, though dominant in their divisions for now, know that they need to win in 2 divisions to be considered one of the greats. Here is how I see it going forward. It’s a risk for GSP to fight Silva at 85 and it is a risk for Silva to fight Jones at 05. Jones definitely doesn’t want to lose to Silva because he wants to be champ at hw while going undefeated at 05. What GSP, Silva and Jones know is the one thing they have over Randy and BJ, is that if they leave their division as undefeated champs and win in another division, then THEY will be considered to number one fighter of all time. These 3 guys and (maybe Aldo too) are shooting to be the king. But they need to be a 2 division champ to do it.
I agree; the only true super fight in UFC history that I consider is actually BJ Penn vs. Georges St-Pierre II, unfortunately because of a few unfortunate Phil Nurse idiocies we’ll never know the 100% truth of what would happen in that fight…
I agree, without question BJ Penn is one of the all time greatest mixed martial artist, but because he took so many risks that others are not willing to, people will always over look him.
They call Silva the best, but you look at his record of who he’s truly fought…
GSP has higher quality of opponents but is seen as a Lay N’ Prayer…
Ultimately no one can truly compare to “The Prodigy” or “The Natural”, but they’ll forever be overlooked despite proving themselves as the bests…
You are an idiot if you think bj penn is even close to being the greatest of all time. Dont you remember gsp beating him so bad that he actually gave up. Let me guess, gsp used too much vaseline. It seams to me that bj would have said something to the ref instead of waiting til after the fight to mention it, sounds like an excuse from a sore looser to me.
I’m sorry but anderson silva is just so much better than everyone ever at striking that I don’t see the guy losing. Maybe by submission or lay-n-pray, but definitely not on the feet. Vitor and Machida had moments on the feet that threatened Jones, and Anderson is in another league striking whys.
1. Anderson Silva asked for a catch weight at 177. It’s not like they’re asking GSP to come up in weight. They just want him to negotiate. They’ve been talking about fighting GSP since the Demaian Maia fight when they both were walking around at 194. GSP still was not interested.I LIKE THE GUY BUT HE DOESN’T LIKE TO TAKE RISKS.
2. Anderson has fought 3 times at 205. The first 2 times that he fought at 205 he was an undersize middleweight that balloned up to lightheavy weight.
3. Anderson Silva is 38. I don’t believe he has more left. The more Dana keeps allowing Silva to fight and waste his time with high risk and low reward fights like Weidman, the more he risk those super fights.
4. Jon Jones is the best in MMA right now. He’s not unbeatable but I don’t think Silva will be able to beat him, which is why they’re not interested in Jones, yet even Silva said he’s willing to change his stance and fight the guy.
I’m not a fan of any of these guys. I just like watching fights, AND I recognize talent when I see it, an Jones is a not just a tough fight but a dangerous one to take before GSP.
George St Pierre vs Johny Hendricks.. Anderson Silva vs Jon Jones
Dana just said a few days ago that Silva told him he would go to 170 to fight GSP because he says he can make 170 pretty easy!
Silva vs gsp at 170 or the fight that makes the most sense silva vs jones at 205
@Brandon
No I believe GSP is the best of all time, the Vaseline was just unfortunate because it’s something that just brings the fight into question.
No question GSP beat the crap out of him, no question he made BJ quit on the stool, and I won’t say a small amount of Vaseline would change the overall outcome, but the thing that sucks is; we will never truly know, that’s all I’m putting out there.
But to answer your question I think BJ Penn is the greatest natural fighter in MMA without question, but there are so many negative variables that we’ll never know whether or not he was truly the greatest.
I don’t defend Penn, he admits himself now you can see it on his posts on FB and such, but damn do I respect him.
