The Ultimate Fighting Championship will end the calendar year with a card that features two very highly anticipated rematches; and UFC officials have decided it’s enough to warrant a price increase on the Pay Per View fee.
Fans will have to pay nearly $60 to watch UFC 168 on December 28. While many have objected, UFC President Dana White addressed the issue during a media scrum after last Saturday’s UFC on FOX 9 event.
“It’s five bucks,” he said. “Get a couple more friends and have them come over.”
Indeed, between the co-main events featuring Anderson Silva facing middleweight champion Chris Weidman and Miesha Tate challenging women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, the UFC 168 card offers enough to draw $5 extra.
And certainly not many fans will be deterred from buying the Pay Per View – even if that means taking White up on his suggestion and splitting the cost among friends. The question remains, however, if the UFC’s discretional increase in prices will persist.
According to Dana White, the $5 hike is just for UFC 168.
“It’s just for that fight,” White told media. “Some guys got together in the office and decided to do that.”
UFC 168 will take place on December 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air live on Pay-Per-View beginning at 10pm/7pm ETPT after preliminary bouts air online at 7pm/4pm ETPT and on FOX Sports 1 at 8pm/5pm ETPT.
