Dana White: Brandon Vera ‘Probably’ Not Cut From UFC
Long-time UFC fighter, Brandon Vera, still has a job fighting in the heavyweight division. According to UFC President Dana White, “if he hasn’t been cut yet, he’s probably not getting cut.”

Despite winning just one of his last six fights, Brandon Vera will live to fight another day in the UFC. At least that’s what UFC President Dana White had to say in the days leading up to UFC 166.
“I would imagine if he hasn’t been cut yet, he’s probably not getting cut,” White said about Vera.
Vera’s last fight resulted in a third-round TKO at the hands of Ben Rothwell. After the fight, however, Rothwell tested positive for elevated testosterone. The athletic commission granted Rothwell permission to use testosterone-replacement therapy prior to the bout with Vera, and his test results brought about only a warning. The UFC, however, suspended Rothwell for nine months.
“I told you guys, however long ago it was, what our stance on TRT was,” White explained. “We have a position on TRT, and anybody, no matter where we are, we’re going to go after guys that are abusing TRT… When you’re a professional athlete, this stuff is serious shit. You’d better know what’s going on with your own fucking body and what’s going in it.”
For Vera, the bout with Rothwell marks the second time in the recent past that he has lost to someone who failed a post-fight drug test. Thiago Silva had a victory over Vera overturned when it was discovered that Silva had falsified his urine sample.
Whether or not these extenuating circumstances played a factor in Vera’s remaining in the UFC is unknown. In any case, Vera is out with an injured hand; while his return to the UFC seems secure, the date and the opponent are unknown.
