Dana White: Anderson Silva “Does Things Other People Can’t Do”
| Today (Wednesday, July 4th) the UFC hosted it’s pre-fight press conference for Saturday’s UFC 162 event in Las Vegas and the main event fighters sat down to talk with the media and discuss their upcoming fights. UFC president Dana White also joined the discussion and talked about several things ranging from live gate, tickets sold, and what he thought about the main-event title fight between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman.
Whenever Dana White speaks, people usually listen. Here is what he had to say about Silva, his legacy, and his toughest opponent yet, Chris Weidman:
In speaking upon Anderson’s crazy reign atop the UFC middleweight division White stated, “He’s the greatest of all time. He’s broken every record in the UFC. He goes out and does things other people can’t do and he’s doing it at 38 years old. He’s massive all over the world and in Brazil. Something special happens every time he fights.”
However, White knows that in the fight business anything can happen, and when then the odds are not heavily stacked in your favor, no matter who you are, the threat of defeat is seriously heightened. Silva has made his 16 fight UFC winning streak seem fairly easy but this time the circumstances are a seemingly a little different. White explained, “These are the lowest odds Anderson Silva’s fought with in a long time and a lot of fighters think Chris Weidman is the one to win this fight.” He continued, “Even when Oscar De La Hoya used to fight, especially as a fighter keeps getting older, everyone keeps asking when will he show up and look 38? Many people respect Chris Weidman. When people talk about Chris the way he’s been talked about, the oddsmakers have to listen.”
Anderson Silva has gained tremendous praise from Dana White throughout his career, but everyone, including White, is hesitant to pull the trigger and say that Silva, despite all of his accolades, is a heavy favorite.
Chris Weidman, without all the trash talk that Chael Sonnen used to hype his fight with Anderson, has made this fight overwhelmingly intriguing. There is a certain mystery behind him that is making him ‘the unknown threat’ that we always hear about in underdog stories.
White seems to be giving both fighters mad props and this is definitely going to be an exciting title fight. Silva has not been tested in quite some time. Wiedman seems ready to push him to the edge and then over. What do you think, Penn Nation? Knowing that Dana White is also on the fence in this fight, who are you taking? Lets hear some predictions!
