Dan Henderson's Camp Expects Title Match Upon Return To Action | UFC NEWS

With all the confusion, controversy and hurt feelings over UFC 151 being cancelled, it’s been easy to overlook what the future holds for the UFC’s number 1 light-heavyweight contender, Dan Henderson.

His coach, Daniel Woirin, took time with Fighters Only Magazine to explain how Dan’s injury took place and what they expect from his return.

Here is the clip:

“Dan Henderson got hurt three weeks ago during sparring when he went to defend a takedown and for a while he has to be away from training, for two to three weeks. It was very difficult for him to refuse the fight. All the team had to convince him not to do it. We did a final sparring yesterday to evaluate his condition and he really didn’t have the chance to fight with Jones. His fight has been called off and when he bounces back, he will be able to dispute the belt.”

Three weeks ago huh! Why didn’t he back out then instead of a week before the fight? So maybe the Henderson camp should bare some responsibility for the cancelled card next sat!

    • Mach00man says:

Exactly! I agree! He and his camp should have said something weeks ago and there might have been time to save the PPV.

      • Dave says:

        Are you for real?
He’s got a fight in 3 weeks so he goes and tells everyone he’s hurt.. Then if he fights his opponent has a definite weakness to target.. Not the brightest move is it??
He did what any fighter with backbone would do, try and make the fight, only at the point that there’s no chance of making it do you open your mouth.

        • Magoo says:

I guess they sat around praying for it to miraculously heal itself, c’mon dude! Smh

        • Dagnag says:

Um yeah, you told them within a week of the fight and then backed out, so why not tell them within 3 weeks and back out? either way you’re still not fighting anyway. I’d like to see any one of you try to fight with a torn acl, even a partially torn one. Doesn’t matter how much backbone you have, at his age he would be freakin stupid to even try it. There being tough and stupid and there’s being tough and smart.

        • Gabi says:

Not everyone tell the UFC to start looking for fighters if need or a different match all together.

    • B-rad says:

He waited because he wanted to tough it out and still take the fight, he even saw DW’s personal doctor and he told them both there was no way he could fight

    • Sean says:

Except for the fact that Dana White knew about the injury as well. They did everything they could to keep the fight on. In no way is it his camp’s fault.

      • Jake Simmons says:

Fighters aren’t supposed to announce injuries, in case they end up fighting. You don’t want your opponent to know what part of your body is hurt! He did nothing wrong. He was expecting to heal up enough before the fight to be ok for the fight. But it turned out he needs a few more weeks to heal up, then a few more weeks to get into training shape. I’d say 2 months after the Belfort fight, hendo should ready to go.

    • luke says:

Jones is a bitch he needs to quit talkin shit

  2. Mach00man says:

And there it is folks! Just like I said! Hendo was hurt a long time ago, around the same time that Chael Sonnen started trash talking Jon Jones! That hole trash talking thing was a plot to get Sonnen in the main event as a replacement for the injured Hendo. Now Dana ids pissed off because his little plan failed. Who gets the blame and all of the backlash? Jon Jones!

    • magoo says:

You too sir are%100 correct !

      • kook says:

        i like u guys.
u type like u have jbj organ in ur mouth while cuddling his sack.
u guys should start a mma fight promotion since u know so much about the biz.
u guys could also make a fortune figuring everything out.
u must just give all of ur money away since u appear to be broke as a joke typing away on this forum.

        • Dagnag says:

And you should go back to school and finish the third grade.

        • hey kook says:

you talk like a someone who tried surfing and couldn’t handle the locals in the water. true? you suck so now you avoid the beach at all cost and hang out on the internet surfing, thinking it’s the same thing like wave surfing. true? Yes, it’s true. I know you bully…

    • y2k says:

that was the dumbest thing i have ever read.

  3. Scotty says:

He didnt want to refuse a title fight, cant blame him! Does seem alittle suspicious though that Sonnen started the trash talking a few weeks ago.. But when Henderson does get healthy and gets the title shot, what about Machida, he was the number 1 contender? Then you have the fight between Shogun vs. Gustafsson? If they do give Henderson the winner of Vitor/Jones then Machida either waits or fights the winner of Shogun/Gustafsson..

  4. Me says:

I still don’t understand why they matched up Vitor with Jones, I’m just guessing it was in the heat of the moment. Machida said he would of been ready by UFC 153, why not let them headline the card then. Now we have Vitor fighting for the title we have 2 #1 contenders in Dan, Machida and the winner vs Shogun/Alexender will want a titleshot. Bringing Vitor to the equation who dosen’t even deserve a MW titleshot is just clogging up the division, Stupid mistake. But that’s just my opinion.

    • nemo says:

I agree. Stupid fight, Jones will rip through Belfort. I wished we could atleast see a good matchup in the wake of all this madness, guess DW thinks that Jones is that much of a draw that anyone paired up with him will result in large PPV audiences. Vitor belfort does not even deserve to fight for a #1 contendor spot in LHW.

  5. Simon Morgan says:

so sick of hearing about Jones and Sonnen. Dan Henderson has more heart and more fight in him than either of those pair. Hope you do get your shot Dan. The fight with Rua was one of the greatest brawls I’ve ever seen and I’m a bouncer I’ve seen a few in me time.

  6. Filthy Rotten Rousey says:

Isn’t chael buddies with Henderson? Looks like some inside information led to all the shit sonnen was talking the last few weeks in an attempt to position himself as a replacement. No wonder jones declined the fight, he was being scammed the entire time.

    • cool story bro... says:

cool story bro…. I like the part where you just come up with a conspiracy theory based on no evidence whatsoever and only your imagination. You have to teach me on how you make bulls*** come out of your mouth (or your keyboard in this case), because last time I checked, it was physically impossible for the human body to perform that kind of of action… You’re one of a kind!!! *thumbs up*!!

  7. HelpMeRhonda says:

So he arguably beat a guy in worse shape than him, refused to fight unless for a belt, and twisted his old fart leg up before his next fight. Is that really how it went down, or was the fight cancelled b/c Dana’s ass is on the hot seat for the last several flops, feared another imminite floppage with grandpa Henderson, running out of fighters to promote, calling Brock now. Sounds like an amateur promotor needs to let the pro’s handle it, what’s Don King doing now.

    • magoo says:

      +1 absolutely on the mark

    • magoo says:

+1 absolutely on the mark….. Lol

      • krafty11 says:

Magoo is just another Greg Jackson nuthugger. Must feel real good to be infatuated with a “sport killer”. Have a nice day, Magoo!

        • magoo says:

A sport killer? Did you text that with a tear in your eye?..lmao. I’d like to know what you and everyone one else that’s been pissing and moaning would have done on 8 days notice! All these new found Chael fans were the same fans that hated his guts when he fought Anderson not to long ago,you guys are all a bunch of sheep wah waah wa aa aa aa waaaah! Now pull up your panties and dry your eyes boys it’s Jones/Belfort not Jones/Sonnen . Good day to you, you krafty little devil.

        • krafty11 says:

When did I mention anything about Sonnen?? You think whatever Greg Jackson does/says is the Word of God. If nuthugger was in the dictionary, there would be a picture with you next to the meaning.

  8. Heavy hitter says:

Jbj isnt to blame…. this s*** was off set up from the start…. Chael was in fighting shape because he has been training the whole time.. No fighter who put there life on the and fight someone on jbj level on 8 days notice

  9. Bob'O says:

Yet………Bones would not fight Chael, who fights the same style of wrestling as Hendo.

Actually, Hendo is more dangerous with his knock out power than Sonnen.

However, Jonny did not want any of Chael’s cardio, which is Spartan.

LMAO! Truth hurts you Jones sack bouncers!

    LOL!!! ~Bob’O

    • CanILive says:

yea because Chael’s cardio has looked impressive his last two fights?
no it’s because JBJ is not going to allow Chael to talk his way into another title fight.
especially while Chael knew the entire time Hendo was injured!

  10. DMAC says:

Hendo get back in line. And stop playin on twitter….

  11. 123 says:

cant believe they’ve scrapped the whole ufc 151 event completely & then blamed 1 person, its dan henderson, jon jones & the ufc’s fault. they should of brought michael bisping vs brian stann forward a few weeks and put them as the main event.

  12. Ddddd says:

I think Magoo should have a rib removed and
he can blow himself for twenty five minutes
    For the main event
He can even pretend it’s Johny Bones’ Bone

  13. Sting says:

Just when we thought that jones had ran out of oponents in 205, now all of a sudden there’s a bunch of guys already lined up for a crack at that light heavyweight belt. Vitor gets first shot when nobody else wanted to fight on short notice, then after that it’s just a whole lot of confusion. Hendo wants his shot once he’s recovered and the dragon machida was promised a shot. Sonnen might also be owed a shot for his good deed trying to step in for the injured henderson but the fight that everybody wants to see is the jones/silva matchup. Well dana, you have your work cut out for you. 151 was lost and now it’s time to make it up to the the fans and everyone who supports mma, i know silva and jones are friends but i don’t really think any of that matters now, let’s have silva vs jones and put ufc back where it belongs!
