Dan Henderson to Meet Lyoto Machida at UFC 156 on February 2 | UFC NEWS

UFC light heavyweight contender Dan Henderson announced last night on Spike TV’s “MMA Uncensored Live” he will face former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida in Las Vegas on Super Bowl Weekend.

UFC 156 is scheduled to take place on February 2nd in Las Vegas and will feature a main event for the UFC Featherweigh Championship as Jose Aldo will defend his title against¬†Frankie Edgar in the latter’s debut in the featherweight division.

Henderson has been out of action since November of 2011 where he defeated ¬†another former light heavyweight champion, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in what was one of the best fights in UFC history. The victory earned Henderson a title shot which was scheduled for September 1 at UFC 151 against Jon Jones, but a knee injury put “Hendo” on the shelf and the ensuing drama caused the cancellation of the entire card.

Machida is coming off a second round knockout win over Ryan Bader at UFC on Fox 4 this past August. “The Dragon” was offered an opportunity to replace Henderson against Jones, but turned down the opportunity to face Jones at UFC 152, citing a lack of preparation time.

The winner of this contest will more than likely face the winner of Jones-Chael Sonnen which will take place April 27th. Jones owns a second round submission win over Machida when the two met at UFC 140 last December. Henderson is still looking to add the one title that has eluded him throughout his 15 year career.

One other bout has been rumored for UFC 156 and that is a light heavyweight contest pitting former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Evans has been out of action since losing to Jones via unanimous deicision at UFC 145 in April. Nogueira was last seen scoring a first round TKO victory over Tito Ortiz at UFC 140.

Hendo by ko in the first rd.This card is looking pretty good, can’t wait.

  2. Mike b says:

Hendo is one of my favorite fighters since the pride days.machida is very elusive and a excellent striker but hendo has a better chin than if machid strikes I think hendo will be able to eat it,but if hendo hits him its over.hendo will chase him down like he did bisbing and put his lights out!

    • B-rad says:

Yea Machida wont be able to take hendo’s power, or knock him out. Shogun has much better punching power than Machida and Hendo took several of his best shots..

      • G-rad says:

Your dumb. Machida has the power and precision to knock anybody out cold including dan henderson. Or have u forgotten what he did to thiago silva, rashad evans, randy coture, and ryan bader…..

  3. B-rad says:

The forecast for February 2 is calling for a heavy H-BOMB to hit the las vegas area sometime during the 1st round

  4. G-rad says:

your all retarded. Machida has the power and precision to knock anybody out cold including dan henderson. Machida is a much more complete striker than henderson. I think henderson will have to use his wrestling if he wants to win this fight. Let’s not forget machida has leveled up substantially since his loss to shogun.

  5. m says:

tough fight for both fighters and I like them both.
going w/ Hendo. he needs one more shot at gold.

  6. Mike b says:

Ur fuc*ing dumb.Hendo has took powerful shots from some of the hardest hitting mma fighters to ever walk the planet.Rampage,Fedor,Wanderlei,Shogun,I mean the GOAT Anderson silva didn’t even ko hendo,I mean yeah he had hendo hurt but silva still won by submission.I bet u if machida fought Anderson, wanderlei,or Fedor and got hit with the shots that hendo took he would be out cold. And if shogun fought machi….oh wait he did and he got KTFO.Of course machida has ko power we’ve seen it time and time again. But like I said hendo has a chin of granite machida dosent,if hendo connects its nighty night, now that’s a FACT!Now how’s that so hard to understand,it’s a fuc*ing opinion so relax and take the pad out of ur pus*y.

  7. dwreck says:

Funny how they try to stack some cards up then later in the year they don’t have any big names to throw into cards that will be disastrous if the main event falls

  8. Josiah says:

i like both fighters but i’d like to see hendo KO jones so i want him to win this. plus, i want hendo to complete his belt collection…
