Dan Henderson Named Next Challenger For Jon Jones | UFC NEWS
He has waited for his chance and following tonight’s UFC 145 main event he has got it.
Dan Henderson has been named as the next challenger for the UFC’s light-heavyweight title currently held by Jon Jones.
After his departure from the UFC, Dan Henderson successfully climbed the Strikeforce ranks to earn the Strikeforce light-heavyweight title. He then went on to finish long-time heavyweight king, Fedor Emelianenko to culminate his relationship with the UFC sister promotion.
After leaving Strikeforce as the reigning king, he came back to the UFC and took out Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in a five round war many have dubbed the best fight in MMA history.
Dana White announced the proposed matchup during tonight’s UFC 145 post-fight press conference.
“We told Dan Henderson he would fight the winner of this fight, yes,” White said.

Yeah exactly. Henderson is the greco roman olympian. Jones wrestling credentials arent close to henderson, but that doesnt mean jones has a disadvantage. I think Jones can easily match hendersons wrestling and maybe even dominate if that is what he choose to do. Anyway goodluck Dan, hope you KO Jones or lightheavyweight division is going to be very boring with no exitement because there isnt anymore challengers for Jones. Really, I think if he stays on the outside he can pick Hendo off a lot easier, he definitely won’t give him as much respect as Rashad so he’ll be a lot more relaxed. He just needs to stay out of range, Hendo has a bomb but its not like he disguises throwing it.
His next 3 fights should be Hendo, Gus and a re-match with Machida, after that maybe a much improved Davis then it’s going to get boring if he doesn’t move up to HW….
Jones does that with all of his opponents my main concern is Hendo’s wrestling. I don’t think he can get Jones off his chest if he’s taken down. I think if Jones is as flat footed (Rashad was too) as he was last night he’s gonna get KO’ed.
Hendo is dangerous in a 3-4 rd setting based on his Shogun performance. He’s a 42 yr old fighter who isn’t concerned with looking pretty and has a great chin. It’s gonna be war! If it goes past 3 rds Hendo will most likely gas out out and Jones will submit him.
I don’t think Machida can handle being picked apart in a rematch. I want Shogun to get a rematch the most. Have Gus vs Machida or Rashad vs Machida next or have Bader vs Gus or Davis. Lol LHW division needs some new blood!

Dont see much difference in this fight than this past fight with Evans.. Jones is going to stand out with his long reach and Hendo is going to try to close the distance! Only one factor, Hendo’s right hand is MORE powerful than Evans right hand.. So if it connects, Jones either goes out or Hendo wont be hesitant to get on him! We’ll see though, wouldnt mind seeing Hendo win but not sure its going to happen!

The one thing that Hendo has on Bones is the kill factor. If he hurts Jones at any point in the fight he’s not going to just let him recover like Rashad did.

This fight is going to be extremely one sided. Who actually thinks Dan Henderson can put up a fight? I think Jones is going to finish this early. The only advantage Henderson has, or, equal playing field I should say, is that he could also easily make heavyweight. Jones being in the Light Heavyweight just isn’t fair. It’s like Edgar being in the lightweight division, but instead of getting concussions, he’s taking people out. He’s as tall as JDS and has longer reach than anyone in the heavyweight division. I’m naturally a lightheavyweight/middleweight, so I guess I’ll just go ahead and fight at lightweight.

The biggest laugh in all this is Dana at the post fight presser saying that twitter is a buzz with people calling for Hendo. I’d say the vast majority of people with any sense can see that he’ll get blasted by Jones, in fact I’d say he’d go into any fight with any heavyweight as a favourite, bar none. The reach, creative striking and wrestling are too much. Who here thinks that if he fought right now as he walks at 230lbs that he’d get beat by any heavyweight?

iv tried to write a good idea of what i think will go down…but this will be a scrap for sure…however the only key thing here is hendos cardio…being over 40 oppose to a 24 or 25 year old (however old bones is) is really hard to keep up with…hendos cardio came into suspect againest shogun…i mean hendos one of my favorite fighters of all time…but this is the bones era…and its coming down to the only possible man who can actually beat jones is anderson

Hendo needs to work on his ground game, he’s got no offense off of his back and thats where Jones is going to try and put him. Hendo is never to be underestimated though and I think this will be a great fight. Cant wait to see it.
