Dan Henderson Named Next Challenger For Jon Jones | UFC NEWS

He has waited for his chance and following tonight’s UFC 145 main event he has got it.

Dan Henderson has been named as the next challenger for the UFC’s light-heavyweight title currently held by Jon Jones.

After his departure from the UFC, Dan Henderson successfully climbed the Strikeforce ranks to earn the Strikeforce light-heavyweight title. He then went on to finish long-time heavyweight king, Fedor Emelianenko to culminate his relationship with the UFC sister promotion.

After leaving Strikeforce as the reigning king, he came back to the UFC and took out Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in a five round war many have dubbed the best fight in MMA history.

Dana White announced the proposed matchup during tonight’s UFC 145 post-fight press conference.

“We told Dan Henderson he would fight the winner of this fight, yes,” White said.

  1. david says:

now THAT is going to be a great fight

  2. Flex monkey juice says:

There should be a great display of wrestling in this matchup. Freestyle (hendo) against jonnies Greco roman Olympic wrestling style. I think jonnie has the better wrestling and heavier hands and will take this in a shitty 5 round sleeper.

    • david says:

are you high? hendo is greco roman

      • Alex says:

Yeah exactly. Henderson is the greco roman olympian. Jones wrestling credentials arent close to henderson, but that doesnt mean jones has a disadvantage. I think Jones can easily match hendersons wrestling and maybe even dominate if that is what he choose to do. Anyway goodluck Dan, hope you KO Jones or lightheavyweight division is going to be very boring with no exitement because there isnt anymore challengers for Jones. If he wins against Henderson lets pray he goes to heavyweight!!!

    • BigHurt says:

      Better hands then hendo really??

      • Dinglenuts Magee says:

        Something about that confuse you?

Yeah, the guy who eats division 1 LHW wrestlers for breakfast is a WAY better MMA wrestler than the guy who got smoked on the ground by a welterweight.

        • Dinglenuts Magee says:

*hands- didn’t see that, thought the comment was

better than Hendo, regarding wrestling, like the previous post

      • Jujitsu Player says:

I think Jones has better hands (jab, speed, combinations) but definitely NOT heavier hands than Hendo which is what that guy said.

    • repairman jack says:

you do know hendo was an olympian right? and NOBODY has heavier hands than hendo!!

    • E716 says:

Hendo has heavier hands imo….but i thouggt rashad had best chance against jones at lhw…i just dont think anyone could beat him at that weightclass

    • fortyb4five says:

lmao heavier hands than Hendo….nobody in mma has heavier hands than Hendo.

  3. LMAO says:

Great fight? yeah right. Jones will tool him because hendo is too slow, not excited for this shit at all. ZZZZZ

  4. Flex juice monkey says:

See previous. Boring ass dry hump shit fight. Neither guy can punch worth a shit.

  5. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

If Jones fought like he did tonight then Hendo can take him.

    • Jujitsu Player says:

Really, I think if he stays on the outside he can pick Hendo off a lot easier, he definitely won’t give him as much respect as Rashad so he’ll be a lot more relaxed. He just needs to stay out of range, Hendo has a bomb but its not like he disguises throwing it.

His next 3 fights should be Hendo, Gus and a re-match with Machida, after that maybe a much improved Davis then it’s going to get boring if he doesn’t move up to HW….

      • Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

Jones does that with all of his opponents my main concern is Hendo’s wrestling. I don’t think he can get Jones off his chest if he’s taken down. I think if Jones is as flat footed (Rashad was too) as he was last night he’s gonna get KO’ed.

Hendo is dangerous in a 3-4 rd setting based on his Shogun performance. He’s a 42 yr old fighter who isn’t concerned with looking pretty and has a great chin. It’s gonna be war! If it goes past 3 rds Hendo will most likely gas out out and Jones will submit him.

I don’t think Machida can handle being picked apart in a rematch. I want Shogun to get a rematch the most. Have Gus vs Machida or Rashad vs Machida next or have Bader vs Gus or Davis. Lol LHW division needs some new blood!

  6. danieljonesfan says:

Great fight? Are you kidding. Shit fight I think was the correct description. Where the hell is hendo gonna win this fight? He couldn’t take rampage down and got stung on his feet, why don’t we stop believing UFC hype and making them money for one sided shit. Sling him in with Cain or someone and let’s see an actual fight not a beatdown

  7. Adrian Mireles says:

Another easy win for Jon Jones!

  8. Stonerman says:

Jon Jones is going to get destroyed. Hendo has the better wrestling and a slight advantage in the striking plus he has KO power and Jones dosen’t. Hendo by KO.

    • Mark says:

      Hendo is old

    • Killerdream says:

dude you are high, jones would outwrestle hendo easily. and how is hendo gonna ko jones when he that huge reach advantage, taller and stronger. come on man even rashad struggled with his quick as hand speed and is a better striker overall then hendo.

  9. Faaris Sheikh says:

    Hendo lost to rampage
It was a close fight with shogun
Whereas Jones ripped through those 2 and now dan hendersons only getting older and slower… If hendo lands we may see a new champ but I don’t see him landing it

  10. Anderson Silva's rib says:

Hendo should’ve already began his preparation, starting with his conditioning even before Bone’s fight with Rashad.

  11. GET RID OF TRT says:

    Dan Testosterson

  12. rondo says:

Hendo lost the wrestling department to Jake Shields for crying out loud.JBJ will ragdoll Henderson, and he will be the first man to finish Hendo with strikes….I’ll call it now!

  13. Ronda shite says:

H bomb to Boner jones :D

  14. lex walker says:

If hendo can’t beat him, no one can

  15. Scotty says:

Dont see much difference in this fight than this past fight with Evans.. Jones is going to stand out with his long reach and Hendo is going to try to close the distance! Only one factor, Hendo’s right hand is MORE powerful than Evans right hand.. So if it connects, Jones either goes out or Hendo wont be hesitant to get on him! We’ll see though, wouldnt mind seeing Hendo win but not sure its going to happen!

  16. Me says:

If it goes past round 3 , Hendo will get finished easily ( Shogun Fight)
& I think the only chancehe has, is landing the right hand duo to the height & reach differences i dont see that happening

  17. A.James says:

The one thing that Hendo has on Bones is the kill factor. If he hurts Jones at any point in the fight he’s not going to just let him recover like Rashad did.

  18. Cheese says:

How much older is hendo then bones? This will be one of the biggest age differences I have ever seen in a title fight I ever seen

  19. Saxxan says:

Now this is a fight got i hope hendo lands that H BOMB then we will see if jones has a chin!!WAR HENDO!!!

  20. Blah says:

I don’t see Hendo winning at all, but he still has the puncher’s chance.

  21. Alex Daas says:

I’m sorry but all of you guys who think Hendo is a threat to jones are just str8 up stupid. Rashad was the last of the real threats at light heavy, now its just a coasting party for Jones until he moves to heavy.

  22. Pijan says:

This fight is going to be extremely one sided. Who actually thinks Dan Henderson can put up a fight? I think Jones is going to finish this early. The only advantage Henderson has, or, equal playing field I should say, is that he could also easily make heavyweight. Jones being in the Light Heavyweight just isn’t fair. It’s like Edgar being in the lightweight division, but instead of getting concussions, he’s taking people out. He’s as tall as JDS and has longer reach than anyone in the heavyweight division. I’m naturally a lightheavyweight/middleweight, so I guess I’ll just go ahead and fight at lightweight.

  23. Dick Diaz says:

    lets land that h-bomb…

  24. Xaninho says:

Unless he lands an H-bomb I don’t see Henderson winning this match-up. He already showed he can’t go 5 rounds.

  25. danieljonesfan says:

The biggest laugh in all this is Dana at the post fight presser saying that twitter is a buzz with people calling for Hendo. I’d say the vast majority of people with any sense can see that he’ll get blasted by Jones, in fact I’d say he’d go into any fight with any heavyweight as a favourite, bar none. The reach, creative striking and wrestling are too much. Who here thinks that if he fought right now as he walks at 230lbs that he’d get beat by any heavyweight?

  26. drew says:

iv tried to write a good idea of what i think will go down…but this will be a scrap for sure…however the only key thing here is hendos cardio…being over 40 oppose to a 24 or 25 year old (however old bones is) is really hard to keep up with…hendos cardio came into suspect againest shogun…i mean hendos one of my favorite fighters of all time…but this is the bones era…and its coming down to the only possible man who can actually beat jones is anderson

  27. danieljonesfan says:

He wouldn’t rag doll them about because he’d outstrike all comers because of his wrestling and reach allowing him to do so. Was Rogan who came with the 230lb figure, either way he’d beat all heavies IMO. Just hope it would be competitive not a walk in the park as it is at light heavy. I’d love to see him against Cain at 146

  28. Zetoe R10 says:

if that was a street fight, there was no winner. jon jones did no damage. he ran the whole fight. typical jackson camp.

    • Donnybrook says:

What the fuck fight did you see?!…. Jones had octagon control the whole fight so who was running from who?… stupidity at it’s finest.

  29. slacker says:

I don’t think Henderson has much of a chance at all. Less than Machida and Rashad IMO. But I sure hope so.

  30. Mike McMack says:

Hendo needs to work on his ground game, he’s got no offense off of his back and thats where Jones is going to try and put him. Hendo is never to be underestimated though and I think this will be a great fight. Cant wait to see it.

  31. Lol says:

U guys are fucking retarded. Although hendos old trt got him feeling good as if hes young. Second of all hendos boxing is better than jones. Hendo is a dangerous counter striker and with the pass few fights jones showed openings vs that and hendos power will be the difference in jones loss. Styles make fights and hendos killer counter punches will be jones first loss. I got big money on this

    • Donnybrook says:

Well then your going to lose big money on this because Hendo’s going to get rag dolled and finnished by round 4.

    • slacker says:

Dude. You are crazy to bet on Henderson. Are you forgetting Jones has legs? Henderson can’t close distance like Machida or Rashad. He has almost zero chance. I would like to see Machida or Rashad fight him again in a year or two.

  32. Ronin says:

Rashad tagged jones a couple times with the overhand right, yes he didn’t do much damage but he isn’t really known for his one punch stopping power (exept his fight with chuck). that’s hendos money punch if he catches jones with it jones is done. hendo ftw by overhand right

  33. saiasaka says:

I’m for hendo on this fight but that’s going to be hard because of the 13,5 in reach advantage ! but I hope he can connect some good strikes to test Jones’s chin; LHW is not a good division to watch anymore, no challenge I prefer watching the welterweight division !
