Cung Le Plans 2014 Return To The Octagon – Wants Bisping, Wanderlei
The last time we saw Cung Le in the Octagon, he was delivering one of the most brutal knockouts of 2012 to the head of his unwilling victim, Rich Franklin. And although the 41-year-old has had a lengthy stretch of inactivity since that violent matchup, Le has no plans of calling it quits just yet.
“I plan to be back this year – 2014, baby,” Le said Friday in Singapore, via MMAJunkie. “I’m going to come back and throw my spinning wheel kicks and spinning back kicks and get them throws back on the map again. So don’t worry. I’ll be back.
“I take one fight at a time, but I have three fights left on my contract, and I plan to get all those fights done.”
After the Franklin win, it looked like Michael Bisping might be next in line for Le. Those plans were nixed, however, when Dana White asked Le to work as an advisor for “The Ultimate Fighter: China”. But now that taping has wrapped on the inaugural season, and Le is almost finished with his media obligations, it seems that he would still love a crack at the sharp-tongued “Count”.
“Before I got to be part of ‘The Ultimate Fighter: China,’ we were in talks to fight Michael Bisping, and Dana flew me out and said, ‘Hey, I need you to be the mentor-coach and be me in China for the show,’” Le recalled. “That was a great opportunity, so I was able to wear several hats on the show. Hopefully after this media tour, I’m going to get back into the gym and train like a fighter and see where I’m at.
“I would love to fight Michael Bisping. One, he loves to fight. He comes to fight, and I come to fight, and I think that would just be a great fight for the fans. I’m open, but that will be top on the list.”
And on the off chance that Bisping isn’t open to the idea? It looks like Cung has another man in mind – the man who scored a brutal win over the San Shou specialist at UFC 139 – The “Axe Murderer”, Wanderlei Silva. And although Silva is busy filming “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3″ against arch-rival Chael Sonnen, Cung still would love a chance at redemption.
“I want a rematch against Wanderlei, definitely,” Le said.
