Cung Le Is Looking For Huge Fight or TUF Coaching Spot
The former International Kickboxing Federation light heavyweight world champion and Strikeforce middleweight champion, Cung Le, said in a recent interview that he would love the opportunity to coach The Ultimate Fighter while he recovers from his injuries.
Le (9-2) is 2-1 in the UFC, winning his last fight with a highlight-reel knockout of former UFC champion Rich Franklin in November. Having fought injured in that fight, Cung Le has taken some time to heal his body, working on movie sets in the mean time.
“I’ve just been rehabbing my elbows,” Le said in an interview with MMA’s Great Debate Radio. “My left one is almost 100 percent, but my right one still is not there yet. So it’s all about staying with my rehab. I’ve got to keep busy or I’ll go crazy, and my friend wrote this script for me a while back and we put it in the right hands, the producer just took off with it and all of a sudden we’re in rush production…”
Now, with a couple of injuries and no immediate fight on the horizon, Le is open to the idea of a different kind of employment through the UFC: coaching.
“I feel like right now as I recover I want to see where I’m at. It would be awesome if I get a TUF coach [job]. Before I got into mixed martial arts I was the head coach of the U.S. National San-Shou team. I love to coach and it would be a fun experience to coach. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. I’ve got a lot of things going on for me, but I know where my roots are.”
About the possibility of a big fight coming up soon, Le said, “I’m very competitive and if something comes up that’s ginormous and I’m healthy, I’ll be ready to go.”
