Cung Le Discusses Inexperienced Yoga Instructor Competing on TUF China

“I’m not sure how many of you have seen the show, but some yoga instructor got through,” UFC light heavyweight fighter Cung Le (above) said in a recent Q&A session prior to UFC Fight Night 34.  “That was not the UFC’s doing.”

On the one hand, “The Ultimate Fighter: China” is an excellent way for the world to see the talented fighters who have been training and studying in China.  On the other hand, if TUF: China is featuring fighters like Li Jinying, a yoga instructor who admitted to having no prior MMA experience, some may seriously question the validity of the UFC’s most recent reality-television venture.

But while the media in the US is quick to question the UFC and its officials, TUF: China mentor and coach, Cung Le, was quick to defend the UFC in a Q&A session prior to UFC Fight Night 34 in Singapore last weekend.
Le responded to questions about the show’s talent hesitantly but with some humor.
I’m not sure how many of you have seen the show, but some yoga instructor got through,” Le said.  “That was not the UFC’s doing.  I believe that was part of the TV show – he was from the hometown – and somehow that guy snuck under the radar.  That was a decision I had to make – if you haven’t watched it, I won’t ruin it – but one of the coaches had to go and put a little hurt on him and let him feel what punches with the four-ounce gloves feel like.

You may watch the video of Le’s Q&A here.  (Skip to 4:55 to hear him discuss Jinying)
