CSAC Denies Cyborg Appeal, Still Suspended For Steroid Use
Today Cris Cyborg Santos and her legal representation petitioned the California State Athletic Commission in a meeting held in Sacramento to overturn her Athletic Suspension for Steroid use.
That petition was denied and the CSAC voted to uphold the 12-month suspension previously handed down.
Her lawyer had petitioned to get her 12-month suspension reduced by 50% and to uphold her fine previously collected.
The former Strikeforce featherweight champion was busted for having the anabolic stanozolol in her system following her Dec. 17 title defense against Hiroko Yamanaka at “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal.”
During the hearing Cyborg had the following to say when addressing the panel.
“I made a mistake. I do not condone the use of performance enhancing drugs in MMA.”
The commissioners were happy she came forward but did it was not enough to overturn their prior decision. Cyborg will be able to return to action in December of 2012.
