Cormier Would Rather Face Jon Jones Than Go Up Against Teammate Velasquez

“I’m not saying that’s what I want to do right now. A lot depends on what happens between Cain and Junior dos Santos. [Moving to Light Heavyweight] is a potential plan B if Cain becomes champion again, which I think he will. Imagine that: Me and Jones standing across the cage from one another. That would be crazy because you know I’m putting him on his back.”

After winning the Strikeforce HW Grand Prix with his victory over Josh Barnett, Daniel Cormier is guaranteed a slot on the UFC’s heavyweight roster.

However, his teammate, Cain Velasquez, may disrupt these plans and force the Olympian to pack down to the weight class below to try his hands at light-heavyweight.

Can Cormier make an impact amongst the UFC’s elite 205′ers?

  1. Xaninho says:

Don’t worry. JDS will still be the champ.

    • Xaninho says:

Don’t worry Cain will murder Dos Santos.

      • Doos says:

just he did last time right?

        • Stupidfuck says:

was that engrish, you retarded ****stick? **** your mother

        • Stupidfuck Jr. says:

Yea, that was English, you obtuse, idiotic, ****stick. However, if your ignorant, simpleton mind didn’t get the gist of what he was saying, let me translate for you.

When your little tub of lard gets hit by one of them Brazilian fists of fury, he’ll do again, what he did the first time – keel over like over weight freighter he is, only to be hit by them fists 10 more times.

          JDS, by Brazilian Massacre.

        • lulz says:

You just got ****in wrecked hahaha.

      • Xaninho says:

You must hate your life, since pretending to be someone so much better than you is what keeps you busy.

  2. Jim says:

Yes. Stout mo’fo is athletic enough to dig in and work inside JBJ.

  3. Zulwali says:

omg…if cormier drop down to 205…that would be insane..:D

  4. Xaninho says:

I think he doesn’t have to worry about fighting his teammate, JDS is probably going to beat Cain again.

But whether Cain or JDS is the HW champ, dropping down to 205 is a smart thing to do for Cormier. He’s as fat as Roy Nelson, if he loses that fat he’d be a very strong 205-er.

  5. Omar says:

DC over JBJ all day!! Cain will stifle JDS with better Boxing defense and TKO JDS wit GP!!

  6. Andersunsaliva says:

I think Cormier and Overeem should fight for #1 contender if JDS beats Cain.

  7. Michael hamlin says:

He needs to drop cause he is a fat 230

  8. stephen riddle says:

This dude must be good, i’ve never seen him fight.

    • Cormier is good says:

but the top tier of the UFC is insane! Cormier’s stand up is elementary. Why this guy or his fans think he could stand with the UFC’s best is surprising to me. He would lose to Browne or Skyscraper, and these guys are still on their way up.

He would suffer the same fate as Bigfoot. (yeah I know, he beat Bigfoot. Big deal.)

      • Gould says:

i would agree with travis browne but i could see Cormier beating Skyscrapper by KO

      • Kaos says:

He did pull off some amazing things in Strikeforce but I agree, he hasn’t been tested against real tier 1 competition.

It’s annoying when guys in the same weight class pull this ‘we’re team mates, couldn’t possibly fight one another…’ thing as well. If that’s how you are fine, but in that case don’t join a team where another guy in your weight class at a similar level of competition is.

It’s annoying when any of them do it, in this case I think an excellent fight would have been Cormier and Cain. Big fan of both of them and I understand why he’s saying that now but come on… it’s MMA, you must have always known there was a possibility you’d have to fight

  9. jbeamazing says:

if cain wins were looking at the next L H W champ

    • Jujitsu Player says:

I think you might be right (although I think JDS will win). He would be a very tough prospect for Jones. His wrestling is outstanding and he has great hands and power…..

  10. "H"BOMB says:

with physical capability in mind, i think cormier could move down to MW if he is at the physique he is at now at HW and cain could EASILY drop to LHW but they are good HW’s and have got a good list of wins going but if the two ever had to meet i wouldnt want to pick a winner

  11. Mike says:

Everyone would rather face Jon Jones than Cain. Come on now. Jon Jones is a polite fighter by comparison. Cain is an unhinged face murderer.

  12. Travis Anderson says:

That’s a little bold on Cormier’s part. He’s a big boy to assume he can drop right down to 205 and make a run at Bones. Maybe he needs to scale it back a bit. His head’s starting to swell!

  13. Holyshitballs says:

Cormier is the new Fedor. An agile, thick and athletic heavyweight. People ha trouble with Fedor because he was quick and hard to get a hold of him because how round he was.

  14. B-rad says:

Man i hope DC drops to LHW regardless of the outcome of Cain and Dos Santos.. He reminds me a lot like Hendo, in his prime. But with better wrestling.. I think he can stop Bones, he definitly has better wrestling.. hes probably one of if not the best wrestler in MMA

  15. Lol haters! says:

Imagine Cormier vs Jones!!!! Oh man this is exciting!!!!
