Cormier Draws former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Frank Mir To Strikeforce| UFC NEWS
Daniel Cormier no longer has to wonder who he is fighting next. It was reported by USA Today Wednesday night that the heavy hitting Strikeforce fighter would be fighting former UFC Champion Frank Mir. Strikeforce has a dwindling roster of heavyweight athletes so the booking of this bout isn’t that surprising.
“There has been a lot of speculation as to who Cormier would fight next, and this is the fight that makes the most sense,” UFC president Dana White told USA Today. “The reality is, Cormier is one of the best heavyweights in the world”.
This fight does make a lot of sense for both fighters and the organizations as well. Dana further explained the pairing of the two.
“He just won the grand prix and beat Josh Barnett. He needs to fight opponents of that caliber, and Frank Mir is that guy.”
No date or venue has been given for the fight, but they are expected to be announced soon.
Mir has the experience, but Cormier is on a roll. Who wins?

Mir by sub or he gets ktfo! I think he needs to retire but who am i to speak.
mir gets embarrassed by cormier. simply because mir doesnt have the wrestling to take him down, and doesnt have the cardio or chin to last an entire 25 mins. mirs only chance is to win by ko/tko. cormier chin remains untested, but i dont think mir has the power to test it. it is a hell of a lot better then cormier vs sylvia tho. lol.
Just cuz u can’t TKD someone down doesn’t mean u can’t sub em u damn noob.
Dont think Mir has the power to test his chin? lol. Sike. Mir has great power in his punches (see Kongo/Big Nog) and knees (see Cro Cop). He will not be embarassed by Cormier. Sorry
i feel bad for mir’s chin. brock, carwin, jds now cormier.
i wonder if Mir could break a neck via triangle
it is possible
I think you guys are unestimating mir. wasnt it less than a year ago he snapped Big Nogs arm? He definitely has the takedown and submissions to beat Cormier, although it is likely that Mir will get KTFO, dont count him out yet, it should be an exciting fight.
Good point about Big Nog, however, Big Nog is not an Olympic caliber wrestler like Cormier.
Agree.people shit on Mir all the time I don’t know why.
@thetude it was also nearly a year ago that big nog nearly knocked mir the **** out. few months ago where mir got tko’d for the hundredth time by jds. and mir doesnt have the wrestling to take anyone down, let alone one of the best wrestlers in mma today. this is mma, mir has a huge shot at winning, but odds are stacked badly against him. and mir didnt do himself any favors by gaining weight and becoming even slower.
@canilive thats ****ing hilarious! i wouldnt doubt it either. lol.
Nearly knocked him out my friend, nearly. You know as well as me that nearly doesnt mean shit in MMA. This is the UFC and Cormier hasnt fought anybody with as much experience or near the caliber of Frank Mir. (Antonio silva balls up when he gets hurt and josh barnett is a joke) This is going to be a different fight than JDS. I expect it to go to the ground where anything can happen with two guys like that in the ring. Mirs’ weight is going to be an advantage in this fight, since cormier usually fights at around 240.
“hasnt fought anybody with as much experience”
You do know who Cormier’s last opponent was, right?
He can always pull guard
Im a mir fan and i cant stand to see him get beat up like that, but that is what floats his boat.
Interesting fight, But I would of like to seen Cormier face a striker, but seeing him face a top level Jiu Jitsu fighter is good enough, If Cormier can beat Mir in my opinion he should come in the UFC having a number 1 contender match for the LWH/HV title.
I’m pulling for Mir,I’m intrested to see how Cormier will do against such a high level fighter in mir
Cormier will treat Mir the same as he treated Barnett. Mir WILL NOT take Cormier down. Cormier will dictate the fights place and position for 5 rounds of a UD. He’s smarter than to let Frank find his rhythm at all, anywhere in the fight.
told you fools it wasn’t tiny Tim this should be good I got love for Mir but DC will smash him
Cormeir by mauling, wherever the fight goes. It’s a way more interesting fight than Tim Sylvia, I’m pumped.
Firstly, Cormier trains with Velasquez therefore, he has that high level caliber. Secondly, Olympian for wrestling. Thirdly, Cormier is a beast
Frank Mir doesn`t have the wrestling to take him out, and i believe everyone here knows that Frank`s chin isn`t reliable so and Cormier has decent striking, dirty uppercuts
Cormier by tko R1
I like Cormier’s nipples.
Getting has but kicked trying to box a boxer doesn’t mean he should retire. Not being able to take down his opponent or even clich is why he should retire, much like Hughes at the end of his career. This is a lose lose fight for Mir, if he wins it was only a chubby unknown dude from Strikeforce who’s still unproven in the UFC.
WHY ?
