Cormier Comments On Frank Mir Bout: Happy Mir Accepted | UFC NEWS

“Tim Sylvia’s accomplished a lot, but he just hasn’t really fought in the top of the sport for a while. No disrespect to Tim, but this is a much easier fight to get pumped up for. I dropped my phone a couple of times while I was trying to look at Twitter. You’ve got to tip your hat off to the executives at Zuffa for doing something like that and to Frank Mir for doing it. I respect Frank greatly for stepping in and taking this fight. This fight can elevate my status in the sport a ton. The reality is Frank Mir is a guy people from the UFC know, he’s been a champion, he’s always around the top of the sport. Frank Mir is going to introduce me to the UFC fans a little bit more than I would fighting a different guy.”
Strikeforce HW Grand Prix champion, Daniel Cormier, recently talked to MMAWeekly.com about his newly announced bout with former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.
This bout marks the first time a signed UFC fighters has agreed to crossover to Strikeforce for a one-fight deal.

I’m assuming this is a HW Title Fight. This should be a good test for both fighters. I think Mir’s experience in the cage with higher level competition gives him the edge, but you can’t look past Cormier’s Power and Wrestling.
I like Mir’s skillset & style, but this will be a very tough fight for him. Cormier has heavy hands & high level wrestling/grappling skills. Would make a worthly last fight for Strikeforce/Showtime!!!
What!!! No SF on Showtime!!
And this is the last HW fight in SF, they are dissolving it.
Last HW* fight. Not last SF fight. Lighter weight-classes and women’s MMA will still be a part of SF.
This is a hell of a fight to have imo. No PPV, just get to turn on the TV and boom two of the best HWs are there for the spectating. ****ing psyched.
judging by Mir’s track record against wrestlers I think he will get smashed this fight
His track record with wrestlers? Who has beat him with there wrestling besides Lesnar? Actually who was a big wrestler that Mir has faced and lost too besides Lesnar and Carwin? Lesnar is the only person to use his actual wrestling to beat Mir.. Carwin beat him standing with punches, didnt even use his wrestling.. haha
Mir has trouble with wrestlers because he can’t take them down or control them from the bottom. Also, hardly can take a punch anymore. Cormier is stronger, faster and has a better gas tank.
Carwin used his control skills from wrestling to get Mir against the cage and then…
Is Frank mir still in the ufc or is this just some creative crossover fight to introduce cormier to the ufc fans?
There will be no more heavyweights in strikeforce they all gettin absorbed into the ufc
And just a temporary crossover. I assume the winner will be known as the last SF HW Champ, and really all they get is Former SF Champ added to their intro at a fight. I doubt there is any influence on their UFC ranking.
This is good for Mir. He’s got to be getting paid a lot for taking this fight. Probably more than the guy defending his title.
Very interesting fight, these are the type I like, you have no clue what’s gonna happen, just have to watch and see…mir has the experience and ground game, but comier has serious power and wrestling/grappling. I’m sure mir could submit him if he can get him to the ground, but if comier can put hands on mir then mirs going to sleep. We’ll see what happens
Ahahaha … Ol frank has been trt approved…. And cormeir is just too small for frank … If this guy beats frank… I will be a fan…
Ohhhh yeah. I forgot Ole’ Frankie boy decided to get on the juice. This is a way more interesting fight now.
hes going to smash frank mir
You know if people would just fight whoever is put in front of them, they will gain the recognition and money. Chuk Liddell had been in the LHW division for years improving his game and knocking people out. When it was time to become champion, he was not only ready but well known. These guys with undeveloped skills and small star power are doing the wrong thing. Why can’t they just allow themselves to develop. Knock out a few no names and receive “knock out of the night bonuses” and let the people see who you are first, instead of having lackluster performances against quality opponents. People like Rampage and BJ put in a lot of work to get to the status that they’re at now. They didn’t just jump in the game and start fighting big names and championships.
