Corey Hill Discusses Anderson Silva’s Leg Break

Last weekend in the UFC 168 main event fans witnessed a horrific accident when Anderson Silva broke his leg on a checked kick.

As bad as his injury is, Silva’s break wasn’t the first such occurrence under the bright lights of the UFC.

Before Silva, there was TUF contestant Corey Hill (pictured).

Hill, who recovered from his injury to compete again, recently talked to MMAFighing.com about his battle with recovery through this terrible injury type.

Check it:

“I sympathize for what [Silva] is going through, and what he is going to go through. MMA fans aren’t the nicest people out there. We dealt with so many people sending us messages via Facebook, cards. Some people were happy. ‘That’s what you get, man! You broke your leg!’ It’s like, how cruel can people be? You can’t jog for long. When it gets cold, it rains, it’s crazy. You always hear old people talking about, ‘I know it’s going to rain, I can feel it in my joints.’ I feel it. It gets too cold man, you can’t run. Because that rod, something happens to it, I feel the pressure as I run. I feel that rod going up into one of my bones. So instead of being the old Corey where I just run through it, tell me body to shut up, now I get on the bicycle. The minute [Silva] broke his leg, I remembered ice and elevation and bed sores. You can’t move. You’re immobile. You pretty much live your life on pain pills as best as possible. It’s just an absolute, indescribable feeling. It sounds weird, but until this happened to Anderson, to be honest with you, man, it almost sounds crazy, but I was embarrassed. You get so embarrassed. Everywhere you go, you’re the guy who had the broken leg. It’s scary sometimes. It doesn’t stop everybody I fight from kicking that leg. It doesn’t stop everyone from going after it. That’s part of what we signed up for. And you know that going into it. You know, the first thing this guy is going to do, he’s going to kick your leg.”

I broke mine playing roller hockey… my advice to anyone having this sort of surgery: it will heal much faster in the initial stages if you don’t take the pain pills and keep the leg immobile… it will only hurt when you move it, so the pain will remind you NOT to move it. You should be able to talk them into replacing the cast with a boot after a few weeks… which will keep you from getting as stiff, which in turn will greatly reduce the need for painful rehab. Best of luck.

I’m serious when I say this. Please tweet this to Anderson. It’s good Advice Will S. Movement can be a great healer.

Silva is gone and I’d hate to have him try to push himself past his physical limits and possibly tarnish his legacy, but I don’t wanna see him walk away with two losses in a row either. Silva got caught for the first time in his MMA career first and now he breaks his bone throwing a kick he’s thrown a million times. In other words, his reaction/reflexes aren’t as good as they used to be and his bones are obviously getting weaker. Sometimes, you just wake up and don’t have it, this is that time. If he comes back from that then it’s like McDonell said, 3-6 months to recover, then 4 or so months more to recover after the rod is removed and all this time, he won’t be able to train. He’s already 38 years old, people forget that too often because of how beasty he is. Unfortunately, everything under the skies have a time limit and I think he’s reached his. :'( Damn. Silva #1 forever still though, GOAT!!!

You obviously don’t know a dam thing about MMA. You have no clue why that injury happen. I understand your concern, but educate yourself before you comment. That injury has nothing to do with his reflexes being slow, or his bones getting weaker, is a freak accident, is how you throw the kick and how it gets check and how it lands on the opponent. Corey Hill was a young mans , 20′ something when it happen, SO AT 20’SOMETHING HIS BONES WERE WEEK AND HIS REFLEXES SLOWER?? MORON

      • Fasolt says:

Please man, do your grammar homework… And we probably all think that Silva fought different to his last appearances, this has nothing to do with the one commenting before you being a moron or not. Just be polite and do not insult others.
