Condit Doesn't Want A Rematch, Says Ellenberger

“I think the fans do want it, but at the same time, I don’t know if that’s what the UFC wants or not. I really don’t. If it was up to me, then yeah, we’d probably be fighting in May or June, but I don’t know if that’s what the UFC wants. I think they kind of still put it in Condit’s hands, but I know Carlos. I know his manager, and I know they don’t want that fight. But again, if I put myself in their shoes, I don’t blame them.”

While a guest on the sherdog radio network, top UFC welterweight Jake Ellenberger explains that he doesn’t think Carlos Condit wants a rematch with him.

Ellenberger entered the UFC in a fight against Condit. The three-round war ended in a split decision that the judges awarded Carlos. To date that has been the only loss for Jake inside the Octagon and he wants his shot at redemption.

With GSP out until November at the earliest, should the UFC really be focusing on making this match happen?

The UFC should make Condit fight someone, isn’t that the whole fucking point in making an interim belt? To keep some action in the WW division while GSP heals up?

If he’s gonna sit out until the end of the year with no WW belt action, why fucking bother having an interim champ?

    • Rambling Gambit says:

I was hoping to see more action and fights to mean something at WW. I feel as if its been over a year of number 1 contenders. As much as I like Condit, I think there should be a fight in between now and the return of GSP. Obviously its a gamble, but if GSP is out for longer then time hasn’t been squandered.
But Ellenberger?! I just don’t know. He didn’t look so impressive against Sanchez…and this one will be 5 rounds lol.

      • phace says:

I agree that Condit should fight and defend the interim belt before fighting George(if George will be out for most of the year. Being the champ means you’ve beaten all the best guys…Condit might as well get started if he wants to be regarded as such. On another note I thought Ellenberger looked good against Sanchez. You can’t disregard the fact that Sanchez is a beast and no easy matchup for anybody. For the 1st 2 rounds Ellenberger was completely dominating him. Yeah, Ellenberger needs to fix a couple holes in his game but I’m sure he’s aware of that and will be ready to fight top competition again.

  2. Might as well, no one cares about Condit GSP lol.

  3. Brad says:

Damn that’s a good point I never looked at interim title that way and it makes perfect sense

  4. MMACRAVER says:

No matter what, the Condit vs Ellenberger rematch is going to happen.

May as well get it over with.

Very dangerous fight for Condit though.

  5. Rich says:

Condit wont rematch Ellenburger cause he loss the first matchup just like he lost to Diaz. Ellenburger was never in any trouble just like Diaz was never in trouble. Condit point fights instead of bringing the pain. So much for the dog fight that Condit said he was bringing against Diaz. UFC needs to make Condit fight, otherwise there’s no point to having an interim belt.

      You are delusional

      • Bloodhound says:

Amen, one point fight against a legitimate bonehead who only comes forward and people forget his highlight reel.

Condit holds the belt, crying like Diaz will get you as far as him; no where.

How can you respect a fighter who retires because he lost the first real big fight of his career, Penn retired with true class, so did Cro Cop, why couldn’t he?

Cuz he’s a baby, not the warrior most think he is but a LOT of that is Ceasar Gracie’s fault.

  6. Nick "Mount Everest" Diaz says:

they waitin for my NSAC decision *puff puff* n if evwythin goes good then i want ma rematch he said he was gonna give … fuk jake e

  7. omgaghost says:

I want Condit to wait. Becuase if he figths in the summer there is a possibility that he will not be ready to fight GSP in November. If the doctors say GSP is out for longer, then yeah Condit can fit another fight in the summer.

  8. Chartmonster says:

Ellenberger might want this fight, but he will be biting off more then he can chew with Condit! NBK’s game has elevated to a new level beyond JE’s!
