Commissioner Explains Scary Altercation With Rampage, Fines The MMA Star $10k
During the weigh-ins for Bellator 120, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson” shoved Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal, which prompted the Mississippi State Athletic Commission to fine the fighter a whopping $10,000. Commission Chairman Jon Lewis explained the decision to MMAjunkie, saying: “His behavior was the worst I’ve ever seen in professional sports…Hitting him for [$10,000] is light, I will say…He’d be pulled out of any other professional sport.”
In fact, the punishment almost was worse, with Rampage being very briefly removed from the card altogether, until apologizing to the commission. Lewis allowed “Rampage” to stay on the card, explaining that he didn’t want to hurt the promotion, but offered a stern warning to the fighter, saying “This whole thing was set up around this fight, and I’m not going to punish Bellator for that…Quinton is going to have to learn to cool it,” he said. “Will he ever do it? I don’t know.”
