Chris Weidman vs. Tim Boetsch set for UFC 155 in Las Vegas | UFC News

By: Chris Taylor

UFC executives officially announced that a middleweight showdown between Chris Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) and Tim Boetsch (16-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will take place at UFC 155 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The NCAA Division I All-American wrestler, Weidman, will be looking to solidify himself as the #1 contender to Anderson Silva’s middleweight belt with a win over Boetsch. Chris most recently disposed of Mark Munoz in the main event of “UFC on Fuel TV: Munoz vs Weidman”. That impressive victory improved Weidman’s career record to an undefeated 9-0, with 5 of those victories taking place inside the octagon.

Weidman takes on Boetsch, who has gone 4-0 since dropping down to the middleweight division. Those four consecutive victories have come over opponents Kendall Grove, Nick Ring, Yushin Okami and most recently over former Bellator champ Hector Lombard at UFC 149.

The fight will be part of the main card of UFC 155, which takes place December 29 in Las Vegas, Nevada at a venue yet to be announced. The main card is headlined by a heavyweight title fight rematch between champion Junior Dos Santos and former titleholder Cain Velasquez. UFC 155 airs live on pay-per-view following the prelims on FX and Facebook.

The latest UFC 155 card looks as follows:

  • Champ Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez – Heavyweight title fight
  • Tim Boetsch vs. Chris Weidman
  • Forrest Griffin vs. Chael Sonnen
  • Joe Lauzon vs. Gray Maynard
  • Phil De Fries vs. Matt Mitrione

  1. Dan Rod says:

Just give him the title shot. Instead of him taking a really good fight, they give him an easy fight stylistically. Tim Boestch is okay, but he’s a slower fighter with robotic stand up. After watching the Hector Lombard fight there’s no way anyone can contend that this guy is a dangerous fight.

  2. Mug says:

Weidman via strong gust of wind

  3. Reg says:

    Weidman wins this easy

  4. Johan says:

Tim is not to be underestimated.

    • Johan says:

Oh, and by the way, i just came out of the closet and would like you guys to know that i’m in love with Jon Jones and i fantasize about pleasuring him orally.

  5. this cards a badboy card!

  6. B-rad says:

Shoulda took the Belfort fight, even if he steamrolls Boetch witch he probably will, people will still be able to say he hasnt faced a real top contender (Chael, Vitor, Bisping)

  7. SinCe 2004 says:

I love how Weidman gets to fight nobodies and call himself a contender for the title. His biggest win is against Munoz whos biggest win is against Leben! And now he gets Boetsh… Yea he deserves a title shot as much as Boetch would if he beat weidman, thats some serious competition there…

  8. Murphy says:

Weidman is going to dominate this fight. I hope they give him a title shot after this fight I think he has a better chance at Anderson then any one else right now

  9. stephen riddle says:

Chris wont win this, tim is going to decision him and then come cut his grass, lmfao!

  10. KILL GREG JACKSON!!! says:

Pretty impressive card to end the year. Nice work ufc.

  11. Brend0magic says:

Don’t think you guys should overlook Boetsch this much, but Weidman did look great against Munoz.

  12. Xaninho says:

lol Boetsch! Is the UFC trying to build up Weidman’s record by giving him easy fights? This fight will not undeniably make Weidman #1. Boetsch most notable win was against Okami and he needed a fluke KO in the third round after getting his ass kicked in the first 2 rounds.

  13. Davey Fitz says:

Winner should face winner of Bisping V Stann for #1 contender spot

    • Bob'O says:

Weidman should get the loser of Bisping vs Stann. Who has this guy beat other than overrated Munoz and Maia before that?

It’s too bad Sonnen moved up to 205 cause Weidman really should be fighting him.

Weidman is a media fabricated number 1 contender.

If Bisping wins, he should get the shot at Anderson. Weidman needs atleast 2 more wins before a shot at the title.

185 is a bit of a joke right now in my opinion. ~Bob’O

      • Philly says:

@Bobo…YOU are “a bit of a joke right now”. Weidman beat Munoz and Maia. Who has Bisping beaten that’s makes him more deserving?

        • Philly says:

How do wins over gatekeeper Chris Leben and washed up Jason Miller make Bisping more deserving? Even if Munoz is a little overrated, he was finished by Weidman in spectacular fashion.

        • Dan Rod says:

It’s not about who has beaten, but who he has had the balls to step in the ring with. Unlike Weidman he didn’t say let me beat some nobodies and demand a title shot that I do not deserve no. He has fought Denis Kang, Jorge Rivera, Akiyama, Dan Miller, Chael Sonnen, Wanderli Silva, Dan Henderson, Matt Hamil, Rashad Evans, and now Brian Stann. This guy will fight whoever you put in front of him. Weidman on the other hand refused to fight Belcher and Vitor, but he’ll take this fight with Boestch. Also not to make excuses, but we finally found at that Mark Munoz wasn’t even 100% in his fight. He had injured his foot in training. By the way the UFC and everyone else hyped Miller into being a tough fighter. Many people gave him a legitimate shot, but Bisping didn’t care, he took the fight anyway and beat the guy. It’s not Bisping’s fought that Miller never amounted to anything in the UFC. He took what he thought would be a difficult fight. Weidman on the other hand, after defeating Munoz thinks that he’s too big of a star to fight anyone else.

        • Philly says:

@Dan Rod…Your point that Bisping was willing to go up against the toughest guys, is more an indication of Bisping’s patience, than it is a valid argument that he should fight Anderson before Weisman. Especially since Bisping LOST to most of the higher caliber guys on your list. Yes, Weidman’s cocky and doesn’t want to wait in line, but the bottom line is that he has a much better chance against Silva than Bisping does. Bisping has zero chance of winning, and based on Weidman’s much greater potential to win, he deserves the shot. Also, from a fan’s perspective, wouldn’t you rather see Weisman/Silva?

        • Bob'O says:

Shut it you Philly turd. Why make the mistake of believing that I give a damn about what you think?

Opinions are what we give here. If you don’t like mine then too bad.

Why don’t you just smoke a pole bro and quit bouncing up and down on your herO Weidman’s nutsack you tool. ~Bob’O

        • thebully84 says:

Philly forgot to mention bisping pulls out due to injury for top tier fighters

        • Philly says:

Bobo- You are always good for a laugh. Getting angry for the wrong reasons, misunderstanding people’s points, and of course always referring to what you know best: “nutsacks”, “smoking poles”, etc…
You are a true master of the rebuttal.
          .

      • Dan Jenkins says:

I agree with ya Bob’O Weidman should have fought Sonnen before he took off from the MW divvie would’ve been interesting anyway. Why not give the winner of Stann v Bisping the shot it’s a new face at least maybe hold a MW tourney kinda like they did for the flyweights? Anyway I’ve heard a few people saying Anderson got his shot after one fight or something that’s bs cos Anderson came into the UFC having fought and beat some of the best MW in the world he just wasn’t well promoted before arriving in the UFC. The MW divvie was shit back then other than Rich they had bugger all really other than Evan tanner and David Terrell but how many of you rate them probably why the 1st season of tuf had MW (I’m open to correction)

  14. punchkick says:

    boetsch via upper cuts!

  15. magoo says:

Weidmans the real deal, i guess after he finishes Boetsch the band wagons gonna get bigger,Weidman would no doubt beat Bisping,I would how ever like to see him and Belcher get it on cause imo they are the #1 and #2 contenders Bispings over freakin rated!

    • Xaninho says:

And who is Boetsch? Boetsch got beaten up for two rounds before landing a fluke KO on Okami in the 3rd. Weidman has beaten a few nobodies and an out of shape Munoz. Bisping has fought much tougher competition and he’s been doing that for several years now. Weidman is still a nobody without any convincing wins against real topcontenders.

      • Philly says:

@Xaninho… True, Bisping has fought tougher competition, but he always loses when does. Who’s the best Guy Bisping’s ever beaten? Leben? Unless you’re Bisping’s manager, why would you want to see him fight Silva anyway? At least Weidman has a chance.

        • Law3056 says:

Most of those losses we’re decision, with exception of Hendo. The point is there are a few people in line for a title shot before Weidman. Now I do agree that Weidman should get his #1 contender shot. But not just jump right into a title shot when there were already others going for that role.

      • magoo says:

Tims on a 4 fight win streak Xaninho, you can’t take that away from him…..OH wait yes you can after no name Weidman finishes him like he did to Munoz!!!!

        • Xaninho says:

I agree the 4-0 in mw does look good, but do you really think his last two fights showed Boetsch could hang with the best? That last fight against Lombard was ridiculous.

Weidman barely beat Maia by a controversial split decision, he beat pudgy Munoz who had an injured foot too. I truly think he’s not ready and he hasn’t earned it. Especially after he ducked Belfort.

And yes I agree Weidman will finish Boetsch, not because I think Weidman is such a gifted fighter, but more because I think Boetsch is a mediocre fighter.

      • TowerPower says:

He did get his A$$ kicked for 2 round, he kept composure and won that fight. A win is a win my friend. He won that fight on heart and determination..good quality in a fighter if u ask me…Boetsch? Boetsch…who is he? dude you better ask somebody. #1 contender after this fight. Thats who he is.

  16. 1 hour of cardio and 2 donuts... says:

That’s BJ’s training regimen. Only without the cardio.

    • aster says:

I noticed Bjj BB is no longer here, but his childish, anti-social comments are. Looks like Bjj BB is butt hurt from getting banned. ROFL. Suckha….

  17. some dude says:

Everone always counts out boetch but some how he always ends up winning all these fights hes not suposed to win just saying.

  18. Shadleigh says:

Weidman is a pussy. He turned down a fight with Belfort, but takes the fight with Boetsch. WTF? If he is trying to establish himself as #1 contender a win over Belfort does FAR FAR more than a win over Boetsch!

  19. Daniel Cook says:

weidman aint ready , im not hateing as he has potential but were not talking bout a mug here were talking the spider anderson silva this is not your average fighter weidman needs sum true character building fights, and all the bispin h8ers on here he has a excellent win-loss record and any true mma fan knws he beat sonnen and theres no shame in hendo ko’in ur arse as hes a banger

  20. red says:

they all had the chance against anderson silva til anderson danced with them.

  21. Tommygunzz says:

JDS by tko,Weidman by decision, chael by decision, lauzon by submission, and meathead by ko.

  22. Ddddddd says:

It bums me out about the whole dodging thing
but I believe in Wiedman. He knows he’s a bad matchup for Spider and I hope no one
gets lucky on him. He’s a precise cat and
I think he would be a classy American champ.
Andersons’ the greatest but a patriot enough
to inspire me to want a classy American.
Hate to see him fall unless it’s an American.
Hate to hate on Boetsch but I’m ready for
a crystal clear 85 pound American champ.
Got Weidmans back Go get this

  23. Sugar Ponybear says:

Fuck that all that. Lauzon/Maynard looks to be a great fight. Either one of them could be close to a title shot, this fight will be interesting. To the main point, Neither Weidman nor Boetch deserve a shot, that said not many middleweights at this time do. Still a lot of sorting out needs to be done, and everyone is saying the middleweight division looks weak because there are no real contenders, that’s just a testament to how good Silva is. Maybe it’s time for him to take another venture to the LHW Division while the MW’s sort themselves out.

  24. Dick Diaz says:

    should be weidman…

  25. TowerPower says:

Counting out someone out because they dont have a the household name to go with it…come on…Boetsch will win this fight. People need to stop with the hate..but I am sure he doesnt mind being the underdog and proving people wrong. This is a big fight for him, GO TO WORK!
