By Evan Stoumbelis (@MMAEvan)

Chris Weidman responded to Anderson Silva’s no-show at the UFC 162 media event today in an interview. Silva was charge $50,000 for skipping his media obligations. All quotes courtesy of MMAFighting.com.

“I haven’t been in this sport as long as him,” Weidman said, “but you watch these superstar basketball players like LeBron James, and after every game, win or lose, he answers questions from the media. There’s always stuff that you don’t want to do when you’re an athlete, but you just have to do it.”

“I hope he’s staying grounded,” he said. “I hope his head isn’t getting so big that he thinks he doesn’t have to do things for the UFC, but who am I to judge? If his head is really getting too big, I’m definitely going to bring him down to earth on July 6.”

This fight between Silva and Weidman is one fans have been wanting to see, with an accomplished wrestling background much like Chael Sonnen, Weidman will pose a challenge to the pound for pound kingpin Anderson Silva on July 6th at the MGM Grand.

Maybe Anderson should have taken that fight with Nick Diaz.
What is he getting a little nerved up? Weidman doesn’t pose a threat. What’s he worried about?

    • Sasquatch says:

Anyone who figures Weidman doesn’t pose a threat is either oblivious to the sport of MMA or just swinging from Silva’s frank and beans. Believe me Anderson is worried.. why else do you think he’s been pushing hard for a “super fight” before this one, because he’s looking for one more BIG payday before he’s dethroned.

      • magoo says:

You are one hundred percent correct Sasquatch, changing of the guard comin up real soon, Weidman has flown under the radar up to now, all them AS frank and bean dick riders are gonna be heart broken when this ones in the books. Weidman is for real people…. Wake up !!!!

        • some guy says:

weidman is for real people….. REAL LAME PEOPLE! ALL ABOARD THE WEIDMAN HYPE TRAIN IS HERE! haha Anderson will lose someday… but it wont be to this crybaby!

    • MMA Elite says:

Silva will lose. Sasquatch is right. Bad match up. Weidman will probably tko him in the first. Anderson ain’t the same guy he was a few years ago . Sorry. Truth! Chael stomped him and should have finished him. I never saw the goat (Michael Jordan) get embarrassed the way chael did him in the first fight, Anderson got real lucky to catch him in the final mins

  2. eric says:

sick of the ridiculous hype trains to hype bad fights. I have yet to see someone matched up to fight silva that is a real threat.

    • Jonn says:

This may be the most real comment on the board. Weidman stans will learn just like the rest. When he embarrasses the dude, what will you guys say then? Ooooo Rematch?! FOH!

      YALL don’t know MMA.

Weidman has a chance, but his chances are not higher than some of the others that Silva’s faced. Just saying.

  3. confucius says:

Another waste of a fight for andersons contract

  4. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Who says Silva just skipped without a good reason? Maybe he had personal family issues in Brazil or something like that.

  5. Gargoyle Wrestling says:

No surprise here. I’m sure Silva will spin this with some bullshit lying crap to deflect the criticism. But really is anybody surprised that a douchebag does a douchebag move??? Come on now.

  6. Adam says:

Anderson needs to shut this idiot’s mouth. A second round tko victory over Munoz doesnt make you GOD.

  7. UFC 84 Forever says:

Mostly respectful by Weidman, I can dig his comments.

Weird situation though, it’s like Diaz skipping some stuff opened some stars eyes…

  8. mean170 says:

The Weidman hype train is going to come to an abrupt halt once he gets into the cage with Anderson.

  9. GRT 3000 says:

The Spider is the man! Why waste time doing press for the UFC after they throw this joke of a matchup together. @mean170 – I agree 100%. more tears to come for all the GOAT haters green with envy.

    • Sasquatch says:

I didn’t think it was possible to suck someone off online.. congrats, you the man! Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Silva fan but I’m don’t think he’s a God like some of you guys. Weidman is a BAD match-up for Andy and he knows it, just his love blind groupie’s don’t. But don’t worry, you’ll all be educated soon enough.

      • GRT 3000 says:

oh STFU you little bitch. No one said he was God like numb nuts. I just know he’s going to kick the shit out of Weidman. not saying he isn’t good, he’s just not ready for the GOAT, its that simple.

    • Steven Thurman says:

I agree, id be so insulted. Put Weidman up against a real contender first. He’s got all this hype, and what has he really done? Weidman isnt a bad matchup, he is a first round win for Silva.

  10. Nando says:

Too bad Weidman chose the wrong athlete to compare Silva to. LeBron did the same thing one time. When Weidman makes Anderson Silva money, playboy, he can do whatever he wants.
