Chris Weidman opens as a 2-1 favorite over Vitor Belfort | UFC NEWS
The UFC Middleweight Champion, Chris Weidman, has opened as a 2-1 favorite over his next opponent, Vitor Belfort.
Here are the current odds according to BestFightOdds.com:
Weidman has not been the favorite since before he fought anyone named Anderson Silva. In their first fight back in July 2013 at UFC 162, where Weidman shocked the world and knocked out the long time middleweight king and also in their more previous encounter at UFC 168 in December, where he again defeated Silva via TKO (Silva broke his leg), Weidman was listed as the underdog. That’s not a major surprise, as he was fighting the man many believe is the best fighter of all time.
The next challenger for Weidman will be UFC vet Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort. Belfort challenged Silva for the belt two years ago, a fight that ended with him getting knocked out by a spectacular front kick to the face. The Phenom has found his way back to the title and in impressive fashion. Last year Belfort knocked out Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold and Dan Henderson.
According to ESPN.com, the title fight may happen in May or July in Las Vegas, depending on Weidman’s health. The location of the fight will certainly be something to watch as we move forward. Vitor Belfort has not fought in the United States since 2011. All of his fights last year were held in his home country Brazil. Belfort has stated before that he will fight anywhere, but the issue will be whether he is on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or not. Belfort was granted permission to use the treatment in Brazil, but it is uncertain yet if he will be approved for use by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
