Chris Weidman UFC 162 Pre-Fight Press Conference Highlights
| Today (Wednesday, July 4th) the UFC hosted it’s pre-fight press conference for Saturday’s UFC 162 event in Las Vegas and the main-event title challenger was just like he’s been the entire time leading up to this fight; confident.
During the conference Chris Weidman answered a few questions about the upcoming fight and how he planned on beat Anderson Silva come Saturday (July 6th). Here are some of Weidman’s responses while fielding questions from the media:
“I’m fighting the greatest of all time. I’m expecting people to think I’ll lose the fight. But that gets me excited to prove them wrong. This is a match-up I’ve been wanting and now I finally have it and I ahve to go out there and do my thing.”
“When Chael got on top of Anderson, he was really stressed out. When I get on top, I feel like that’s my world and I’m going to be nice and relaxed. There’s no reason to rush. I’ll be nice and relaxed and I’ll be more calculated with everything I do.”
“I don’t go out there to try and not get tired. I work hard every day and, if I’m working hard, the other guy’s working hard and he’s going to break before me and that”s my mentality.”
“Obviously he was taken down a bunch of times in that fight so that’s something I’m going to try to do.”
“I’m gonna be Chris Weidman, I’m not Chael Sonnen and I think that’s going to be a more devastating match-up for him than Chael Sonnen was.”
So, after hearing Weidman’s thoughts just days outside of fight night, does anyone get the feeling that he may have the upper hand heading into this fight? It seems like he knows what he wants to do, knows it wont be easy, but also believes that he can do everything he wants to. Weidman is 9-0 in his MMA career and although he’s far from having 37 fights like Anderson Silva, he seems like a poised veteran as the fight quickly approaches.
