Chris Leben and Mark Munoz Make History Tonight At UFC 138

A milestone in UFC history takes place tonight from the LG Arena in Birmingham England this evening on Spike TV.

For the first time in UFC history, UFC officials have set up a five-round non-title fight in its main event of the evening.

“UFC 138: Munoz vs. Leben” goes down at the LG Arena at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham England. The Spike TV card will feature a main event between middleweights, Mark Munoz and Chris Leben in the UFC’s first ever 5-round non-title fight.

The bout not only marks the beginning of a new five-round non-title fight era, but it also signals the near end of the UFC and Spike programming partnership. With only one more card scheduled to air on Spike TV this year, the Leben vs. Munoz main event this evening is expected to help close out a six-year run on Spike TV.

While the fans have been craving five-round non-title fights in title-less main events for some time now, the Munoz vs. Leben bout is more than likely not going to go the full 25 minutes. With two hard hitting specialists in the cage, the five-round contract is more of a formality than a promise. But regardless, the fight is an almost guaranteed action packed affair that will help close out the Spike TV era in the same way that it started with the Griffin vs. Bonnar matchup that launched the UFC to the next level.

The UFC 138 lineup is as follows:

MAIN CARD: (Spike TV)
• Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz
• Renan Barao vs. Brad Pickett
• Papy Abedi vs. Thiago Alves
• Cyrille Diabate vs. Anthony Perosh
• Terry Etim vs. Edward Faaloloto

PRELIMINARY CARD: (Facebook)
• Justin Edwards vs. John Maguire
• Rob Broughton vs. Philip De Fries
• Michihiro Omigawa vs. Jason Young
• Chris Cope vs. Che Mills
• Chris Cariaso vs. Vaughan Lee

  1. Leben n Munoz is going to be a chess match and a war! Leben needs to fight smart and not come out swinging.. Leben fights smart and paces himself and picks his shots and defends tds he will win by KO. Munoz is well rounded, but doesn’t want to stand and trade w the cat smasher..LOL. Big fight for Leben fighting the no. 4 ranked Munoz. Good luck.. Crippler!

  2. Ninja Oreo Dollop says:

This is good news for fans who like fighters who push a slow pace and pick their shots.

  3. BJ PENCIL says:

i thought Munoz vs Lebene was FOTN; give them the bonus, Dana!!!
