Charlie Brenneman in an interview with MMAweekly Radio.
Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman faces the highly touted Erick Silva at UFC on FX 3 this Friday night at the Bank Atlantic Centre.
Brenneman who snapped Rick Story’s six fight winning streak comments on Silva.
“If he’s the better man and proves me wrong, I’ll have no trouble saying that I was wrong and he was much better than I thought,”
“We’ll find out real quick if his black belt judo and jiu-jitsu is the real deal. I promise I will put that pressure on him early.”
“Yeah, I mean to me those are the guys I want to fight a la Rick Story. He hasn’t really proven that much in the UFC, however, if you hear the talk it sounds like he’s the next Anderson Silva. So I’d like to put a halt to that freight train.”
Brenneman feels all the hype around Silva may not be warranted. But also knows if he is able derail Silva’s momentum that he’ll be able to get some of the respect he deserves in the welterweight division.
“He’s got such a big name, yet he hasn’t proven too much, so that’s like having cake and getting to eat it too. I get to fight a big name who hasn’t really proved themselves and so that’s all the better because it’s better than fighting a big name who’s beats the crap out of everybody.”

i like this guy. Sure he got MAULED by Johnson, but that’s like a totally different story. he woulda kept fighting if he could, in it till the end.

Breneman is so friggen overrated its just sickining. Only reason he was able to “FITCH” STory was because he had trained for Nate :THE CHEAT” Marquardt who has no wrestling. Not to mention Breneman had a huge weight advantage on Story use it to just lay on him. If Story fight would have had same ref as last nights Brenamna/Silva fight Story would have KO’d overrated breneman. how could UFC ever have Brenemena as co-main event is beyond me. I’ve been telling you guys for a few months now that Erick Silva is the real deal. That guy is a future champ.
Beating Brenneman doesn’t make you champion material quite yet felagi. I thought Brenneman was winning that round until he got chocked. Was it me or did Silva look gigantic compared to Brenneman. Also, did you see that cheater move Silva did when Brenneman was about to throw him to the ground and he grabbed the fence? That shit happens all the time and needs to be addressed. I’d like to see Silva get the fasttrack to see if he is the future champion.
I agree he’s not champion material today, but he will be in the future. He needs to fight a top 10 guy next, if he wins than fight top 5 guy if he wins in a convincing manner than maybe a title fight. I’m going to predict a title fight next April/May
We’ll see what happens but I have complete with in this guy. I believe he has champion quality and I hope I’m right.
I don’t agree that Brenneman was winning that round, Silva was landing more damaging strikes. But maybe I was just wearing my Erick Silva glasses when I was watching the fight, so I could be totally biased.
Yeah I saw the move when Silva held the fence and I certainly didn’t like that. It annoys me when fighters grab the fence repeatedly and get no point deduction. Silva only grabbed it once so no need for a point deduction in his case.

I agree Silva looked bigger then Brenneman. I don’t now about gigantic, but bigger. I would think that Silva is very physically strong for a WW, but he’s no Thiago Alves.
Brenneman grabbed Silva’s shorts, happens all the time with these wrestlers…..needs to be addressed.
Brenneman never once grabbed his shorts and if he did he would have ripped them off. Silva punk move of grabbing the fence because he knew Brenneman was about to throw him to the ground. Punk move. Also I had Brenneman winning that round until he got choked. He set the pace and was more aggressive. All Silva did was back up and sprawl..oh yah and grab the fence…

@clay…they did not just cut duffe for being injured,,,dana said there were alot if other factors that duffee did behind the scenes that made dana not really feel who wanted be in ufc,,,so dana cut him…i saw dana talking a interveiw abut cutting duffe
