Charlie Brenneman Defends His Backlash Towards Jon Jones | UFC NEWS
“Even my wife was like, ‘Why are you mad at him? Why aren’t you mad at Dana White? If you’re champ, you’re the champ. That means, yeah, you probably make the most money, but it also means that you’re the face of Nike, you drive a Bentley, you are the face of the UFC. Those are big things. I don’t get that. None of my immediate friends get that. Frankie Edgar, who’s been champ, forever one of the best fighters in the UFC, he didn’t get that. It’s those kind of extra bonuses that then kind of put you in a position where you might have to do things that you don’t necessarily want to do. We have to cover my wife’s flight. All these airlines offer a ‘rebate,’ but then there’s a several-hundred-dollar activation fee for the rebate. We have to cover those costs. I know my brother and my parents, my aunt and uncle, they all lost out on money and that’s money that I will give them. I’m sure they will tell me, ‘No, don’t give it to me,’ but that’s several hundred, maybe a thousand bucks. My one corner, he purchased his flight. Got to change that to Canada, got to cover that difference. So yeah, there’s a lot of stuff, not to mention I’m primed. I’m physically primed. I’m ready to fight Sept. 1 and I can’t do that.”
Scheduled to fight at UFC 151, Charlie Brenneman was quick to take to the world of twitter to lash out at Jon Jones fot the cancellation of the event. In this recent interview with sherdog.com he defends his stance and explains his personal fallout from the event.

I still don’t see why he wants to blame Jon Jones. The UFC cancelled the event. What Jon Jones has is as a result of beating everyone he has faced inclusive of the toughest guys in his weight class. He gets those perks for a reason. Brennaman should focus on himself and what he needs to do to reach those levels instead of watching what Jonny has from kickin a$$ in the cage.

The second Jones gets knocked out he will be like every other Greg Jackson fighter.. When did GSP become boring after he lost to Serra before that he was killing fools, same with Edgar and pretty much all the point fighters in the Jackson camp.

I’d probably be upset over the whole situation too. I hate Jones and think he should have stepped up, but I can also see how UFC is to blame. There were other options besides canceling the event.
But I think what people neglect to understand is that Jones’s failure to take the fight probably affected the other fighters more than the UFC. DW and Lorenzo have vehemently claimed that all the UFC fighters are paid well, right? But when you look at public records indicating payouts, many fighters seem underpaid. So the UFC supposedly provides them with a percentage of the gate, PPV, etc. Since there was no viable main event, the PPV buys would have been abysmal. Sure, they could have moved the card to television for free. But that leaves only the gate to pay everyone.
The UFC, being a business first and foremost, is not going to take a hit when it doesn’t have to. No corporation in the United States would let that happen if they could help it. UFC was in a position to help it, so to speak. Jones gets blamed, the business saves face. Brilliant PR stunt.
That all being said, both Jones and the UFC should accept their share of the blame. However, I think the scales tip in Jones’s direction. Brenneman has every right to be pissed at him.
Thurgood that was well put… It’s true that both entities have fault, and DW was a douche for throwing JBJ under the bus. My biggest thing with Jones is that for an Arogant prick he does nothing to promote himself in a positive nature. After the whole DUI he should’ve jumped on the chance to F-up Chael and do something positive by saving the Card. He wants to be labeled as the “Greatest LHW ever.” he needs to step up the PR game otherwise he’ll be known as the prick that never lost i.e Floyd Mayweather… JBJ should save a little old lady holding 3 cats from a burning building while drinking a Coke. Then Brenneman can forgive him!
people know of Charlie Brenneman is because he beat a way over-rated Rick Story.
Having said that, Jones wasn’t given any of the rewards of being the champ: he earned it. He trains hard, learns more of the fight game each day, and plays by the “rules” of the “game.” Politics is a game. Fighting, professional competition, is a game. Jones made the right decisions in life to reach the point he’s at (he made wrong decisions also, like everyone does, but he’s made more right than wrong).
It’s hard to wrap your mind around how a successful person became so successful. Most people are just average and lead averages lives. What’s not understood is criticized mainly to raise the self-esteem of the criticizer. And that’s too bad.
Actually Rick Story had trained hos whole fight camp for Nate “THE CHEAT” Marquardt and not a lay n pray expert like Breneman. Story got screwed because of Nate “THE CHEAT” marquradt 5th FAILED piss test in the UFC. Story would KO Breneman in a rematch

Jones is not a grinder, he’s all finesse and theatrics. **** Nike, **** all endorsements. The UFC is getting bloated and the cards are getting weak.
