Charles Oliveira and Estevan Payan are set to fight on the upcoming UFC 166 card on October 19, the UFC announced on its Twitter page.

The featherweight bout will be joining an already stacked night of fights at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.  The card will be headlined by Cain Velasquez defending his title against Junior Dos Santos in their third fight, an exciting heavyweight bout between Daniel Cormier and Roy Nelson and several other fights featuring top-10 fighters.

Oliveira (16-4) is coming off two losses, a first-round KO to top featherweight Cub Swanson and, most recently, a tough 3-round fight against former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.  The fighter from Sao Paulo, Brazil will need to make a statement against Payan.

Estevan Payan (14-4-1) entered the UFC in May with an 8-0-1 record, but lost his organizational debut in a 3-round fight to Jeremy Stephens.  In Oliveira, Payan will be facing arguably an even tougher opponent than Stephens.

The Oliveira-Payan bout will air as part of the card’s preliminary bouts.  The main card will air on Pay-Per-View.

  1. I punch puppies says:

I felt like Swanson exposed this dudes chin but he held his own against the former champ, obviously he can’t rely on a chin for entry into grappling exchanges like other fighters but he definitely is getting better and could be on his way to tittle contention.
