Chael Sonnen on Jim Rome: I took TRT “To Get an Edge”

| Media favorite and UFC light heavyweight Chael Sonnen hit the news waves once again as he joined Jim Rome on his show to discuss several topics surrounding the UFC, MMA, and, of course, the controversial topic of TRT use in the sport. Sonnen, who is never one to shy away from a controversial argument, went on record explaining his misunderstood suspension by the CSAC a couple years back, his use of TRT, why he uses it, and how he views the use of testosterone in the sport. Bleacher Report provided the transcription from the Jim Rome Show:

“That is inaccurate.  I didn’t have high levels (of testosterone), I had a separated T to E (testosterone to epitestosterone) ratio, which is not illegal,” Sonnen stated.  “I was in trouble for the disclosure issue and they gave me six months.

“Testosterone’s not illegal, which we all found out. It’s perfectly legal.  I followed all the rules as I understood them and yes, I took it to get an edge.  I would never take anything if I didn’t think it would help me.”

So what do you think fight fans? Is Sonnen making the case for TRT use in MMA stronger or is he justifying why it should not be allowed in the sport? Let’s hear some opinions on Sonnen’s comments on Jim Rome. Let it roar, Penn Nation!

It’s this simple, they should make it legally for everyone to take, make it the fighters decision to take it…

Sonnen sucks on TRT and I would hate to see him fight without it. He hits like a girl and he has no movement skill, his boxing is’t boxing the dude can wrestle kinda but all I seen him being good at is laying and take downs oh and maybe hugging against the cage a little.

  3. Sean M says:

I think it should be okay as long as it is not abused..

  4. Stu says:

Everyone who says TRT, roids, ect should be legal are crazy to me. The UFC already has guys almost killing themselves to make weight (Urijah Faber) now we want to turn the UFC into a MMA suppliment arms race? Call me old school, but I like to look up to athletes because they can do things I cant, and its hard to look up to guys who are bought, paid for, and engineered.

  5. A. Chung says:

Sonnen himself has went on record saying he is a lair and you can’t believe everything a lair says.

  6. JJ says:

TRT gives fighter advantage and I think fighters who are not using it should be allowed to turn down these fights without any problem.

TRT does give a edge not just inside the octagon but during there training camps. It does make you faster and stronger and it makes you work harder.

Yes it should be banned if a fighter is past his time and can’t handle fighting without TRT then it’s time to RETIRE!!

It’s cheating bottom line. Its not natural and it’s just another way for people to cheat.

  8. Ya herd says:

Trt affects u mentaly too, it makes u more aggresive make it that every fighter has the choice to use a certain amount that means nobody can complain about it being used
