Chael Sonnen is at it again. The “American Gangster” is never shy to an interview or to make comments. This time the target is, no surprise, Wanderlei Silva in whom Chael is scheduled to face off against this May 31st at UFC Fight Night Brazil.
Sonnen took some time with Combate.com to discuss how he plans on handling his next bout and what the future holds for him in the middleweight division.
Sonnen stated that he has big plans in the middleweight division as he’s already gotten his eyes set on another opponent. But first things first as he stated that he needs “to get rid of this bum”, referring to Wanderlei, before moving on to another bout that he stated he’s already gotten lined up.
Chael also began to account his own version of why the bout was moved to Brazilian soil. Ironically, he referred to it as “neutral territory” although his opponent is a proud Brazilian and that is what started the beef between the two in the first place. Sonnen goes on to claim that Wanderlei instead is a residence of Las Vegas and has “abandoned” Brazil 15 years ago, and that to be fair he decided Brazil was the proper place for the fight as they were both “guests” on Brazilian soil.
Brave or foolish words from Chael? Nothing new however as the Oregon gangster is no stranger to starting up some controversy.
We’ll have to just wait and see how things work out as he and Wanderlei settle the score this May for UFC Fight Night Brazil. This bout is undoubtedly going to be a great one as these two have serious bad blood. This rivals has been going on for quite some time now, and I’m sure every fight fan out there is ready to watch these two settle their differences. And to see how much of a “bum” Sonnen thinks Wanderlei is when the cage door closes.Chael Sonnen, ufc fight night brazil, Wanderlei Silva
