Cesar Gracie Hints At Deception: Wonders how GSP stayed ‘one step ahead’ of Nick on the ground | UFC News

Through the eyes of Cesar Gracie, George St. Pierre’s performance at UFC 158 seemed almost too good to be true.

St. Pierre won a unanimous decision over Nick Diaz over the weekend in convincing fashion.

The fight left Gracie, Diaz’s head trainer, scratching his head. He found it “kind of odd” that GSP was continually “one step ahead” when the fight went to ground.

Recently, Gracie was on “The MMA Hour” and when asked if Diaz would defeat St. Pierre in a rematch, Gracie said:

“I think it would have to be a complete gameplan switch on what happened and training a little bit different and everything. There was some stuff, it’s almost like “GSP” really knew the moves that Nick was going to do from bottom. It’s interesting, you know? That’s my idea watching the fight. It was really weird. Because Nick does stuff that’s very unique and he hasn’t even, he does it in grappling but he doesn’t necessarily do it in fighting. And he was doing it more in fighting and it was kind of like, wait a minute, this guy is like one step ahead, he knows exactly…it was kind of odd. Almost like someone from our team, or something, not a current member, you know? I don’t know, it was one of those things, but, that’s whatever, I don’t want to make out an issue at all. I don’t know without all the facts.”

Diaz mentioned something similar in his interview with FUEL TV after the fight, referring to photos that were taken during training for UFC 158.

  1. Mike says:

Shut the Fuk up Cesar Gracie, your a pathetic looser and all your fighters suck. Stop making excuses and take your fighters back to second class league like Bellator.

  2. you know what it is says:

Keep making excuses like every time one of your team members loses… ZERO UFC championship belts thusfar, buddy.

  3. Not You says:

How long did it take you two to wipe the Cheetos off your fingers before you typed those comments? Ceasar is simply stating what he saw.If it seems fishy to him then it seems fishy. It’s not always some excuse you fucking idiots.

    • allmightysandman says:

I agree with the first two posts…this sounds an awful lot like whining to me.

(and he does make a lot of excuses for his fighters’ losses.)

maybe it’s time to change things up a little in his camp.

      • Not You says:

Everyone has something to say when they lose about the things that led up to a loss. Now, here’s what I think, they should either be excuses across the board or not. It’s always a pick a choose situation when someone comes out to say something after a fight. “So and so is just making excuses because he sucks and should kill himself.” or “Well, I really like so and so, I know he can do better than that and will perform better next time.” One or the other, not valid for favorite fighters and bs from fighters they don’t like.

        • Allmightysandman says:

I agree to a degree, but it sure sounds like Gracie is accusing GSP (or someone else of cheating) that’s not just bitching about the fight that’s hacking on someone.

  4. JohnG says:

like whatever I don’t want to make excuses or something but yeah he seemed to know all my moves or something… I mean if I had better sparring or a coach that told me to go to bed on time or something uhhhh but I’m not a bitch that complains or anything though…

  5. allmightysandman says:

    1. If a former fighter from your camp is now at a different camp and shares insight into how Nick fights…that’s life and not underhanded.

    2. “Nick does stuff that is very unique…” Really? ’cause he’s looked same for about 5 years now and doesn’t really seems to do much different or unique AT ALL. He tried to beat GSP the same way he tried to beat Condit (unsuccessfully and predicable)

    3. Gracie seems to be have excuses for most of his guys when they lose, and very few of the ‘reasons’ they lose are owned by the camp or the fighter…they all sound pretty whiny IMO.

    4. Shields is now part of the conspiracy theory team Gracie has I guess…claiming that GSP’s gloves “…looked shady…”

    5. The fact of the matter is (IMO) that his fighters have had their chances at titles in the last couple years and they mostly fall short. Maybe there are some changes that need to be made rather than crying and whiing about the losse.

    6. GSP won ALL aspects of the fight…even the ones that Diaz and Gracie “welcomed” before the fight. Diaz said “if he wants to take me down, take me down, I’ll beat him on the ground…” (or something to that effect) NOT SO MUCH.

  6. magoo says:

When u train with jiu jitsu wizards like Estimate and Danahar I’m pretty sure you Learn to telegraph a move or two. After all it is GSP the best thinking fighter in mma.

  7. magoo says:

When u train with jiu jitsu wizards like Estima and Danahar I’m pretty sure you Learn to telegraph a move or two. After all it is GSP the best thinking fighter in mma.

  8. 123 says:

To me it looked like GSP was just too strong on the ground, Nick Diaz would never beat GSP in a 5 round fight.. He would probably beat him in a 6-7 round fight tho.. in my opinion.

  9. Dan Jenkins says:

Maybe that was what nick was alluding to in his post fight speech, it makes sense what he was talking about now. I do agree with the sandman that when a former teammate changes sides that all is fair in love n war but I do also understand why the Gracie team is cut up about it they weren’t to happy with caio terra after the condit fight and even tho it is not illegal it is morally wrong it isn’t really that far removed from being a traitor (the principles are the same) so IMO I think it’s up to the individual to do what they feel they should.

  10. Tyler says:

What a lame ass move to try and hint at cheating and take away from the champ. Cesar is representing his family and the Gracie name and is being so disrespectful just by hinting that alone. Way to be graceful in defeat. I wonder if the great Cesar Gracie put it together that Georges St Pierre trains with Renzo Gracie and that may have something to do with it, Nick’s game isn’t secret cause GSP is learning from the same family that Nick is…Nick and Nate are so bright

  11. MMAKansas says:

Actually the Cesar Gracie camp does have 1 UFC belt, it happens to be Ronda Rousey who is the Women’s Champion at 135

    • allmightysandman says:

…which was handed to her without a fight.

      • BT says:

Aldo and Cruz were handed belts… and like Rousey, they’ve all won a fight in the UFC to defend their belts.

        Weak statement/argument.

        • Allmightysandman says:

          Just the truth bud

The Gracie camp is not full of champions…that’s the point

….and you ain’t the judge of shit so I can post whatever the hell I want whether its the truth or my opinion….most of the time it’s both.

  12. SlipSlap says:

A bad workman blames his tools. And some might say Diaz is a tool.

    Just saying.

  13. SeeRook says:

Rolling for the knee bar from the bottom is no crazy secret unique move. And if you repeat the same move with the same set up over and over again, and he defends it by MOVING there doesn’t need to be anybody telling you what somebody does in practice.

  14. Lelouch says:

The whole preparation of Nick to the fight was not good especially for championship fight, and at least half of the blame is on the UFC, so i think Dana as old school boxing fan should not stand between nick and rematch.

    • Dafak says:

The guy was not supposed to get this title shot in the first place – that was Johny Hendricks’ match but since Nick pulled a chaelsonnen on GSP, GSP asked Dana and the UFC to fight Nick (who came into the match with a loss by the way), so … do the math.

  15. fuck the haters says:

shut the hell up thinking cesar gracie doesnt know shit dumbasses 4 of his fighters have recently been or will be in UFC TITLE MATCHES: Jake Shields vs GSP, Nate diaz vs ben hendo, gilbert melendez vs ben hendo and nick vs GSP…. 2 of the toughest divisions

cesar gracie jiu jitsu is a team that does not go out there to win on points, no they go out there to fight and fight with their own style all the time not trying to outpoint by grabbing…

    • Nunya says:

You say fuck haters, yet you talk just like one. I don’t deny the greatness of this man, but he does sound like a sore loser. GSP kicked Diaz ass. In no way in the fight did Diaz have an advantage. They say it seemed wierd that GSP knew how to neutralize or stay one step ahead of Diaz. Excuses, excuses, They fought. GSP dominated & just outfought Diaz. Its that basic.

    • allmightysandman says:

slow down big rig! getttin your panties all in a bunch!

You’re right they had guys challenge for a title…and lose. If it’s all about proving better jits, then maybe they should stay in BJJ tournaments. they fight in MMA and if they can’t figure out a way to win at it, then maybe they should BE in it. Of course they are a good camp…is it a great camp…maybe. They don’t seem to be able to win against GSP though, and he just beat the best guy in Cesar’s camp ON THE GROUND…which is where they say they are the best.

clearly they are not…and for Gracie to whine about cheating is pretty lame. IMO

  16. RICKY says:

YOU THINK AFTER THE FIRDT ROUND DIAZ MIGHT
DO SOME THING DIFFERNT BUT NO IT WAS ALL HE HAD GSP BEAT HIM EVERY ROUND GSP IS JUST THAT GOOD HE WAS STROUNGER BY LAY ON HIM HE CAN FEEL EVERY MOVE DIAZ WAS TRY TO MAKE.

  17. Top 10 Wonders says:

Thank you for providing such information. This is very generous of you providing such vital information which is very informative.

  18. Ya'llisPussies says:

My god, GSP caught cheating again!? The Gracie camp absolutely sounds disgusting. I’m a novice and I could tell Diaz was going for the same move over and over. Of course George shut it down.

Really? Every fucking time this guy wins it’s because he is cheating? Diaz tried a “secret roll” into a knee bar…so fucking predictable and George shut it down…end of story.

Are you going to say he has a secret form of training that is illegal next? Blame his work ethic? Blame his meditation? Blame nothing. George was too strong and smart for Nick.

Now stop talking shit and go back to licking your wounds ***** Gracie camp. Tired of the bitching that comes from your end of the Octagon. Pussies.
