Cerrone a future Champ, says former teammate Evans

“I definitely think Cerrone can win the title. I love to watch the way he’s grown in the sport. I remember when he first came to Jackson’s gym; he had absolutely no wrestling at all, like zero wrestling. And his ground was just kind of so-so. He was just all stand-up; he was one of Duane Ludwig’s protégés. To watch his growth is ridiculous and every single time I and watch how good he’s got and I get chills. He used to come to the gym and he’d live in that gym and those guys would practice all day long, literally. He’d practice with the team, get something to eat, take a nap, and then practice all day for the rest of the day. Donald’s a leader too, he had all these guys and he was the leader of the crew and everyone wanted to be like Donald. The work he put in paid off.”
Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Rashad Evans, talks to ESPN.co.uk about his former Team Jackson stable-mate, Donald Cerrone.
Since entering the UFC, Donald Cerrone has dispatched all comers. With a six-fight win streak dating back to his WEC days, he has since taken four bouts in the UFC in the past eight months and been successful in all of them.
Up next on his plate is none other than Nate Diaz, a man who often times only gets thwarted by the division’s elite contenders. Will Cerrone be able to throw his name in the mix before the years end?
We will find out at UFC 141.

Definitely wouldn’t be surprised to see him holding the belt one day, although he’d have to go through some epic wars in the octagon to get it.
I agree, I do believe he will hold the LW belt in 1 to 3 years.
He will never be champ while Bendo is around that spot is reserved for him.
agreed with all respect cowboys best fight was siver so far and diaz is his next diaz just came off losing matches and beat gomi who hasnt shined in the ufc so still cowboy is lacking a good top 10 opponent maybe joe lauzon should fight him to get rid of the hype
Good call on the Lauzon matchup. Think that would be one hell of a scrap right there
diaz is always considered a top lightweight, he just isn’t strong enough for ww. so and I’m pretty sure if he wins he could go into the top ten rating depending on who you ask. gonna be a tough on for both guys though..
Corrone has a great chance to take that 155 belt, I cant wait to see him match up against edgar, melendez, guida, diaz and even against BJ! This Division is Stacked Son!
He’s raw man, 100% fighter.
You can tell fighting is the only focus outside of running his farm w L Garcia & buying a bunch of toys. Must be the life!
Enjoying getting paid to fight, plenty of toys, and lots of land. Yeah, he’s definitely living the good life!
I have been a Cerrone fan for years now. He is a BEAST and now is FINALLY getting a little more love and talk about title contention. BOUT DAMN TIME! Dana LOVES the Cowboy now cause he is game whenever against whoever. How many guys are willing to fight 5 times in a year. I think if he walks through Diaz he should be next in line unless Bendo or Guida just pull off an amazing finish. Donald pulls in bonuses almost every fight it seems too. He ALWAYS wants to put out an “ass whoopin’” as he likes to call it so you always get your $ worth with him. WAR CERRONE!!!!!
its taken cowboy forever cuz bendo was in the wec with him and beat him twice so there was no chance of cowboy ever getting another shot at that title
Right. If he did, that would be real messed up. Let Bendo punish Guida then get his shot
Hell Yea he loves to fight this is wat his 4th fight this year? hella active never a boring fight these WEC guys are ppl to look out for wudnt mind seeing him and bendo go at it again jst so exciting alot of those guys in the division shud be biting there toungue for wat they said about the WEC guys
cerrone is a beast!!! i’ve also been a huge fan since back in the WEC days. so glad to see him working his way up and getting the respect he deserves.
CowBoy all day
Ive said it many times already, Cerrone is damn wrecking machine, hes top 10 easily. Im almost positive We will be seeing a Henderson/Cerrone 3 in the not too distant future for the UFC LW title.
The Cowboy will be a force to reckon with, but Bendo and Jim Miller will be on top for a bit. The Cowboy is going to send Nate back to the 209 busted up!
Nate will end the hypetrain.
I consider myself a huge Cerrone fan and I think he’s easily top 5 LW in the UFC but there is a fighter that has his number bigtime and that is Ben Hendersen. I think its because Hendersen has the sickest friggen chokes and strength of a middleweight and he targets Cerrone very long neck and I don’t mean that in adisrespectful way its just a fact Cerrone’s neck is easily the longest in the LW class. Hendersen is top 3 anyway IMO and he has beaten Cerrone twice quite easily. yes I know Cerrone has improved but so has Hendersen.
Roger dat Fitch hater!
Easily? yeah first fight wasnt easy by any means, it was a war
It would be crazy if it only took the wec guys one year to clear out the ufc. i see bendo and cerrone fighting for the belt. again
