Cavalcante vs. Vallie-Flagg Set For “Strikeforce: Grand Prix Finale”

Another lightweight bout has been added to the ever growing May card getting put together by Strikeforce.

As announced by Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, JZ Cavalcante and Isaac Vallie-Flagg have agreed to square off.

The “Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Final” is set to feature the heavyweight tournament final between Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier as well as a lightweight title bout between Gilbert Melendez and Josh Thomson. The show, which will air live on Showtime, is set to go down on May 19 from San Jose’s HP Pavilion.

Cavalcante is a very talented lightweight fighter. More than just a prospect at this point, his resume is deep with stellar performances on the global stage. However he has hit a string of bad luck in the past few years and as such has only been able to string together two wins in the last four years. As it sits now, he is 2-3-2 in his last seven fights.

Vallie-Flagg is a Team Jackson fighter hailing from New Mexico. He last saw action taking out Brian Melancon via split decision at “Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum” to move his pro record to 9-0-1.

Strikeforce should try and make a huge event out of this now that UFC’s heavyweight title shot is proly gonna get scrapped. Take advantage of the UFC mistep…Honeslty tho these fighters are hurting themselves with all of this and the UFC is not placing its fighters in the best situation to keep clean. Im comparing NFL versus UFC. NFLPA asked for 0 inseason HGH testing, only 10% of players can be tested in off season. 24 hour notice and 3 failed test before discipline.
