Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson’s search for an opponent at UFC 227 on August 4th appears to have come to a surprising end. The perennial top-ranked UFC light heavyweight contender was initially expected to possibly be getting a fight with the former UFC and Strikeforce middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold at the Los Angeles event. But all possibilities of that fell through after Rockhold injured his leg and needed to get surgery to repair it.

And it looks like we very well might be…they just won’t be going against each other. Negotiations were underway for a potential super fight between the flyweight and bantamweight champions, Johnson and Dillashaw but according to Johnson’s manager, despite both accepting their offers, Dillashaw was given a new contract that resulted in him rematching Cody Garbrandt in UFC 227’s main event.

Title fights officially announced for UFC 225 and UFC 227

Two title fights were officially announced by the UFC on Friday at their 25th Anniversary Press Conference in New York. Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington will meet at UFC 225 for the interim welterweight title. Initial reports came out that the two were going to meet at UFC 224 in Rio de Janeiro but it is now confirmed the two will meet in Chicago on June 9.
