When Stipe Miocic stopped Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 241, he not only reclaimed the UFC heavyweight title, but also his reputation as the top heavyweight in mixed martial arts. At least, that’s the widespread opinion. Not everybody is convinced.

The idea of a fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz is fascinating enough as is. Any additional elements added to the potential welterweight showdown will be a cherry on top. On Saturday night, after nearly three years away from the Octagon, Diaz returned to defeat Anthony Pettis via unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC 241. Following the win, Diaz called for a fight with Masvidal for the, hopefully, soon-to-be made “baddest motherf****r in the game” belt.

The UFC commentator and podcaster frequently gushes over the brick-fisted boxer, and has even had him on a guest on his show in the past. On the latest edition of the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show, which featured boxer Terence Crawford as a guest, Rogan once again sang the praises of Wilder.
George St-Pierre responds to call for Nick Diaz rematch

Nate Diaz returned to the Octagon at UFC 241 and successfully beat Anthony Pettis via unanimous decision. After the fight, he called for a fight against Jorge Masvidal, but he also wants George St-Pierre to fight his brother, Nick Diaz. The former two-division UFC champion St-Pierre retired earlier this year but hasn’t fought since his 2017 win over Michael Bisping at UFC 217. The Canadian fought Nate’s brother Nick at UFC 158 in 2013. Despite the fact that St-Pierre won via dominant unanimous decision, the younger Diaz brother wants to see a rematch.
13 fighters break CSAC weight gain rules for UFC 241

13 fighters have broken the weight recommendation guidelines provided by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) at UFC 241. CSAC helps regulate extreme weight-cutting for MMA fights in California. For health and safety, the commission advises fighters not to rapidly cut and regain more than 10% body weight between weigh-ins and fight night.

Tensions are currently running high in Hong Kong, as thousands of pro-democracy protesters have taken their grievances to the streets of the Chinese territory. Normally, this kind of news would not infiltrate the MMA bubble, but the UFC has plans to touch down in the neighboring Chinese city of Shenzhen on August 31, which makes it quite relevant. The situation in Hong Kong, which has underway since June, has resulted in hundreds of arrests, violent collisions between protesters and police, airport shutdowns, and a boosted military presence at the China-Hong Kong border. Given this strife, there has been widespread worry the UFC may have to cancel the upcoming UFC Shenzhen card.

Chael Sonnen believes a third fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier is now out of the question. This past Saturday night (Aug. 17), Cormier and Stipe Miocic collided in a rematch for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 241. While Cormier knocked out Miocic back in July 2018, the Cleveland native got his revenge. Miocic stopped Cormier in the fourth round via TKO to reclaim the heavyweight gold. Miocic became just the second man to defeat Cormier in MMA competition.
