UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards sized up his upcoming opponent Khamzat Chimaev, saying that the Swedish prospect is “overhyped.” After temporarily being removed from the UFC rankings due to inactivity, Edwards finally signed on the dotted line to fight Chimaev. The two will square off on December 19 in a five-round welterweight main event, and the winner of the fight will be in a prime position to challenge for the belt in 2021. It is a massive fight at 170lbs between two of the best fighters in this division. However, Edwards isn’t buying all of the hype on his opponent.

UFC middleweight contender Kevin Holland is planning a move down to 170lbs at some point and says he’s coming for Jorge Masvidal’s BMF title. Holland is one of the hottest fighters in the UFC middleweight division these days. Since making his promotional debut in 2018, Holland has gone 7-2 overall in the Octagon. But 2020, in particular, has been a good year for him. Since the UFC returned from the coronavirus pandemic in May, Holland has gone 4-0 with wins over Anthony Hernandez, Joaquin Buckley, Darren Stewart, and Charlie Ontiveros. He will fight for the fifth time in seven months when he takes on Jack Hermansson at UFC Fight Night in December.

Silva last stepped into the UFC’s Octagon on Halloween night, when he was knocked out in by ranked middleweight contender Uriah Hall. Heading into the fight, UFC President Dana White claimed the fight would be Silva’s last with the promotion, and post-fight, the UFC boss reaffirmed he had no interest in giving the aging legend further fights.

UFC middleweight champ is Israel Adesanya not committed to light heavyweight long-term, stating “middleweight is my perfect fighting weight.” Adesanya won the UFC middleweight title in October 2019 when he defeated Robert Whittaker to take his belt. He has since defended his title successfully against Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa to improve his MMA record to a perfect 20-0. The UFC is now giving Adesanya the opportunity to move up to 205lbs and challenge new UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz in an attempt to win a second belt. If Adesanya can beat Blachowicz, most fans figure that he will pursue a fight with Jon Jones next.

Jones, the former longtime UFC light heavyweight champion, announced a move up to the heavyweight over the summer. His goal is to challenge himself and win a second title in the UFC over Miocic, the fighter who many consider the best heavyweight of all time. Earlier on Tuesday, it was revealed the rematch between McGregor and Poirier was a done deal for UFC 257 on January 23. The two sides had verbally agreed to the rematch weeks ago but just recently word got around that the UFC might pull Poirier and do Justin Gaethje vs. Conor McGregor.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski explained his recent success with being on a two-fight winning streak at the age of 41. Arlovski defeated the younger Tanner Boser via unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 13. It’s the second straight win for Arlovski, who won a unanimous decision over Phillipe Lines in his prior bout. Along with a decision win over Ben Rothwell last year, Arlovski has now won three of his last four fights. Considering it’s not that long ago that he was on a five-fight losing skid, his recent run has been remarkable.

Bellator 253 takes place on Thursday, November 19 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Henderson vs. Jackson is set to be the co-main event for the card, which features a five-round main event between featherweights AJ McKee and Darrion Caldwell. Nurmagomedov last fought in the main event of UFC 254 in late October, when he defended the UFC lightweight title with a second-round submission victory over Justin Gaethje, who was widely viewed as his toughest challenger to date. This win pushed his record to a fantastic 29-0.
