Christopher Taylor - July 13, 2021

Former lightweight kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov has a theory as to what Dana White and company are going to do with Conor McGregor following UFC 264. McGregor suffered his second consecutive defeat to Dustin Poirier last weekend, a loss which served as the third in his past four fights. Adding salt to the wound was the fact that the defeat came in part due to a broken tibia.

UFC President Dana White made the fight official on Tuesday via Kevin Iole before the UFC shared the news themselves. The September 25 UFC 266 bout will be only the second non-title non-main event UFC fight in history — the first being UFC 263’s welterweight pairing of Leon Edwards vs. Nate Diaz.

Michael Bisping believes Conor McGregor should part ways with John Kavanagh “immediately” following the coaches assessment of UFC 264

Cole Shelton - July 13, 2021

Michael Bisping didn’t like John Kavanagh’s assessment of the first round between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Early on in the fight, McGregor had some moments. He went back to his karate style and went back to spinning kicks and a kick-heavy gameplan. However, for the majority of the round, he was on his back after Poirier took him down and landed some ground and pound. Unfortunately, for the Irishman, with just seconds to go, he took a step and snapped his leg causing the fight to be over.

Jake Paul claims Conor McGregor "needs Jake Paul more than I need him" after UFC 264 loss

Cole Shelton - July 13, 2021

Jake Paul believes Conor McGregor needs him more than ever after his UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier. Paul, who is just 3-0 as a pro boxer, is set to box Tyron Woodley at August 29 in Cleveland, Ohio. It’s an intriguing bout but ever since Paul became a pro boxer he has taken shots at McGregor and said the fight would happen. However, after the Irishman suffered a TKO loss due to a broken leg, Paul says the fight isn’t as big as it could be and McGregor now needs him for the big payday.

Thiago Moises expects to earn stoppage win over Islam Makhachev to steal his hype

Cole Shelton - July 13, 2021

Thiago Moises didn’t expect to fight Islam Makhachev next time out but immediately accepted the scrap when it was offered to him at UFC Vegas 31. Moises, who is on a three-fight winning streak and coming off a win over Alexander Hernandez, figured he’d fight someone ranked right near him. Yet, when he got the call to fight Makhachev, it was an immediate yes for the Brazilian.

Khabib Nurmagomedov named best MMA fighter at ESPY awards

Adam D Martin - July 13, 2021

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov added to his trophy case as he was named the MMA fighter of the year at the ESPY awards. Nurmagomedov was up against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes, and UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas, but he managed to beat them all out to win the coveted award. Nurmagomedov earned the ESPY award on the strength of his submission win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 last year. It was a phenomenal win for Numagomedov, and even though it was his only fight in the last year, it was enough for him to take home the award.

Adam D Martin - July 13, 2021

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather trolled former opponent Conor McGregor following the broken leg he suffered in the main event of UFC 264. McGregor lost to Dustin Poirier via first-round TKO (doctor stoppage) in the main event of this past Saturday’s UFC 264 pay-per-view card. The Irishman apparently had a pre-existing injury coming into the bout, according to his coach John Kavanagh, and whatever it was, it appeared to be re-aggravated during the fight when McGregor’s kick was blocked by Poirier’s elbow. Not long after that, McGregor collapsed and then got finished. The stoppage has been made into a meme by plenty of fans and now even Mayweather is taking part in the fun, as he took to his social media to poke fun at his former rival.

Conor McGregor drops two spots in official lightweight rankings following UFC 264

UFC superstar Conor McGregor has dropped two spots in the promotion’s official lightweight rankings following his TKO loss at UFC 264. McGregor broke his leg and lost via first-round doctor stoppage to Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 264. It was the Irishman’s second straight loss following a prior TKO defeat to Poirier in January at UFC 257 and his third loss in his last four fights overall. Now that the event is over and the new media rankings are in, McGregor has been docked for his poor form as of late, as he slipped two spots in the rankings all the way down to No. 7.

Colby Covington believes Conor McGregor's "pride and ego" will keep him in the fight game

Adam D Martin - July 13, 2021

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington believes Conor McGregor’s “pride and ego” will keep him in the fight game despite his leg injury. McGregor broke his leg against rival Dustin Poirier in the main event of this past weekend’s UFC 264 trilogy fight. The Irishman threw a kick that Poirier blocked with his elbow and as soon as he stepped down on the mat, his leg gave way. McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh said that McGregor was also dealing with an injury in training camp that may have led to the injury. Either way, McGregor is expected to be on the sidelines with the injury for the rest of the year, and given how devastating it was, some believe he may be out longer.

UFC women’s flyweight contender Jessica Eye needed 13 stitches to close a nasty cut suffered during her fight with Jennifer Maia at UFC 264. Eye and Maia were involved in an accidental clash of heads during the contest which led to Eye suffering a horrendous cut in the middle of her forehead that saw blood immediately start pouring out of it. Impressively, Eye’s cutman was able to stop the bleeding with vaseline and she was able to make it to the final bell, though she ultimately lost a unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards. Still, the fact that Eye was able to make it the distance was impressive given that she had a hole in her head for the final two rounds.

Khabib Nurmagomedov believes “something superior” caused Conor McGregor’s leg to snap at UFC 264

Adam D Martin - July 13, 2021

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov believes that “something superior” caused Conor McGregor’s leg to snap at UFC 264. McGregor suffered the injury during his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier which headlined last Saturday’s UFC 264 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas. The Irishman broke his leg near the end of the first round, which caused him to lose the fight via TKO (doctor stoppage). According to McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh, he had a pre-existing injury that he suffered during training camp that could have led to the injury. But if you ask Nurmagomedov, the reason that McGregor’s leg broke is due to something superior.

Harry Kettle - July 13, 2021

Ali Abdelaziz has taken a shot at Conor McGregor for his antics after losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Abdelaziz has been locked in a war of words with McGregor for years now, dating all the way back to when Conor went up against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. From that point on the pair haven’t been the best of friends and, to this day, Abdelaziz can’t help but throw shade at the Irishman – even when he isn’t directly involved.
