Cain Velasquez Vs. Junior dos Santos III Set For Oct. 19th In Houston
The conclusion to the greatest trilogy in UFC heavyweight history has been finalized!
The third match between current heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, and former champion Junior dos Santos is set to take top billing for UFC 166 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, on October 19th. UFC President Dana White made the announcement to ESPN on Monday, and commented on the possibility of this rivalry extending past 3 fights. White told ESPN, “I think if Cain wins the fight as impressively as he did the last one, it’d be tough to do that fight again.”
As we all know, Cain and Junior are 1-1 against each other, with the most recent bout being Cain Velasquez’s one-sided domination of Junior dos Santos at UFC 155 in December 2012 to regain the heavyweight strap. Prior to UFC 155, Junior dos Santos had defeated Cain in just over a minute into the first round at the UFC’s first ever broadcast on FOX in November of 2011. Since their last meeting at UFC 155, both men have fought once, and on the same card.
UFC 160 went down this past May and featured Cain Velasquez defending his title for the first time with a quick finish over Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, as well as Junior dos Santos highlight reel KO of Mark Hunt. After the event was over, Dana White stated that after such impressive performances both men would face each other a third time to settle the score indefinitely. UFC 168 will air live on PPV at 10pm ET/7PM PT.
What does Penn Nation think? Will Cain bring a furious pace and varied attack to dismantle dos Santos yet again? Or will Junior be able to land the powerful punch that won him the belt once before? Tune in and find out!
