WSOF 2 Results: Burkman Wants Title Shot After KO of Simpson | MMA News
Josh Burkman is now two-for-two with the World Series of Fighting and he hopes that leads to something special in his next fight.
Burkman (25-9) used a right knee to knock out Aaron Simpson (14-5) in the first round in a battle of veteran lightweights at World Series of Fighting 2 on Saturday.
Burkman, fighting out of Salt Lake City, also defeated Gerald Harris at WSOF 1 in November. He could be in line to face the WSOF’s latest signing, Jon Fitch, but he wants something more.
“I think I deserve a title fight,” Burkman said. “I beat Harris and Simpson, two of the best guys outside the UFC. I think Jon Fitch needs to earn his title shot.”
“The People’s Warrior” caught Simpson with a right hand that hurt him, and then added a combination that backed him up. Then came the big right knee, which landed flush. The end came at 3:04.
Burkman said he thought he would have to cancel the fight a week ago due to an injury, but his wife came up with a home remedy that helped heal him.
“I had a great training camp,” he said. “I never really stopped training after my fight with Harris.”
