Bryan Caraway responds to twitter backlash

It was backstage at Newark’s Prudential Center during UFC 159 that Bryan Caraway (18-6 MMA, 3-1 UFC) convinced UFC president Dana White to up the evening’s bonuses from $50,000 apiece to $65,000. Weeks later, and in a roundabout sort of way, Caraway found himself the beneficiary of his own lobbying efforts.

Caraway received a $65,000 bonus on Wednesday for his third-round guillotine choke submission victory over Johnny Bedford at UFC 159, which now stands as the events “submission of the night”.

That bonus money became available after the New Jersey Athletic Control Board announced that Pat Healy had tested positive for marijuana following his victory over Jim Miller on April 27.

Because the UFC withholds bonus money until the pending results of the post-fight drug tests, and does not award fighters who fail the tests, Pat Healy never received his 65k and now never will.

After being informed that he was now the winner of UFC 159’s submission of the night bonus, Bryan Caraway had this to say:

“I couldn’t be more happy, and it was an insanely pleasant surprise. All I’ve got to say is that’s some expensive weed. I like Healy a lot. I came up through the fighting ranks with him. We used to train together at Team Quest. I love the guy. But I have absolutely zero remorse or guilt. I hate weed. I cannot stand it. I’ve never tried it. I’ve never smoked a drug in my life. So I have absolutely zero tolerance for people that do it. I don’t care if it’s legal in some places or not. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous. Whether it’s legal in real life or not, they tell you to follow the rules. You need to follow the rules.”

Caraway’s reaction to receiving the bonus money was considered by most to be less than humble and by some, in particular Nate Diaz, to be a ‘bitch move’.  After catching wind of the negative backlash, Bryan “Kid” Caraway took to twitter to share his explanation for his previous comments.

@BryanCaraway: I feel I deserved the SOTN anyways for my sub. And fighting on 5 days notice cutting 23.5 pounds and making weight and winning!

@BryanCaraway: My oldest sister is heavily involved in drugs an has caused many hardships on my fam And she started with weed Dnt judge me u dnt know my story

what a loving brother. way to throw your sister under the bus …

  2. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

What a little bitch! I can’t stand that douchebag.

Yeah she started with weed but that didn’t cause the problems he’s speaking of. Weed is not addictive.

    • Wrong... says:

Saying Cannabis is not addictive is as bad as the nay sayers saying it is a gateway drug…

That is false and you know it. ANYTHING CAN BE ADDICTIVE..

      • umm.. says:

i agree with you that it can be a gateway drug.. but its not addictive. you can stop at any time and have zero side effects. that being said, i can still understand brians attitude towards weed.. its unfortunate.

  3. 757 says:

    Fuck you Caraway

  4. Thom says:

all i gotta say is, thank you Diego for knocking this guy silly.

  5. Dan Jenkins says:

It’s unfortunate that Healy was caught a few days out from wada relaxing on weed or maybe his case pushed the issue. As far as Caraway goes there’s such a thing as a bad winner the fact that he lucked out and got a bonus that wasn’t his should have been good enough for him, for once he brought home as much as his missus does, Caraway wishes he could beat the likes of Miller (on or off weed). Caraway should be concerned about his career padding your record with nobodies is something you do to get to the ufc not what u do in the ufc. Every time you see his photo miesha’s right next to him it’s like nobody knows who he is until you see his missus… That’s right it’s Mr Bryan Tate

  6. Dan Jenkins says:

Apparently he hits women too first his threats toward rousey about breaking her arm which is funny cos rousey would probably beat him and then there’s the incident of elbowing Zingano at the weigh ins. Get this woman beating c*** out of the ufc if Dana doesn’t condone the word faggot (which he himself is guilty of saying to the media) then how can he let a little DOG like Caraway have a place, of all the fighters to be cut, you let this turd keep fighting he can’t beat men so he’s gotta cheap shot people on top of that a sneako on a woman. Caraway is the lowest bit of scum in mma

  7. Yari says:

True. Caraway already showed interest in beating women when he threatened to punch out Ronda Rousey’s teeth.

  8. butthurt potheads says:

…and im still yet to know a pothead that has some sense… makes you realize pot it is actually bad for you… thanks for the clarification…. and remember, not because you do it or support it means is right… and if you think it is not bad for you then why not give it to a 2 year old and see what happens… just think about it… oh dont bother replying… not gonna stop by again… enjoy your pathetic lifes…

    • Dan Jenkins says:

Get your f***in facts straight I’m not a smoker, there’s a lot worse you can be than a bud smoker… Like a woman basher you goose I dare say that violence against women has destroyed more relationships than weed and if you condone violence against women you need your head punched in.

    • Get Rid Of Caraway (Forever) says:

Sounds like Bryan Tate just commented. Caraway should be cut. Is violence against women what Dana and zuffa want portrayed by his fighters. Just because its a violent sport doesn’t mean they have to take it out of the gym or cage. Let see Caraway elbow Barrao, Renan could give him the 10 lbs and still knock him out.
