Brian Bowles appeared before the Nevada State Athletic Commission yesterday, where he received a nine-month suspension and a $5,700 fine for failing a drug screening after UFC 160 in May.

The suspension, which will be enforced retroactively, is in response to Bowles’ elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio in a post-fight drug test.  The NSAC also ruled that Bowles forfeit 30% of his purse from the fight.

Bowles appeared at yesterday’s hearing, although he was not expected to.  According to a reporter for ESPN, Bowles said that he had no idea why he failed the test.  Bowles’ post-fight test came back with a T/E ratio of over 20-1; the limit for the Nevada commission is 6-1.

Bowles’ suspension means that the former WEC champion will not be eligible to fight until the end of February.  Bowles’ trainer told the commission over the telephone that the fighter would fight again.
