WSOF 2 Results: Branch Uses Wrestling to Dominate Filho, Calls for Title Shot | MMA News

David Branch picked up his second World Series of Fighting win with a workman-like unanimous decision against Paulo Filho at WSOF 2 on Saturday.

Branch, who defeated Dustin Jacoby by decision at the inaugural WSOF event in November, used superior wrestling to control and dominate Filho. Two of the judges scored the fight 30-27, and a third had it 30-26.

“I didn’t know who was going to show up,” said Branch, who hails from Brooklyn, NY, of Filho. “I have so much respect for him. He was one of my idols coming up.”

Branch (12-3) dominated the first round, creating space in half guard to land punches and elbows whenever he saw an opening. Penetrating the Brazilian’s defense was not easy, until near the end of the round, when Branch landed several hard shots.

Filho (23-5) came out slinging wild, looping punches in the second round, but Branch was able to duck under and secure the takedown on several occasions. Working out of side control midway through the round, Branch pinned Filho’s left arm and landed numerous short punches to the head.

The third round proved to be more of the same, with Branch pinning Filho near the cage and landing the occasional short punch and elbow while many in the Revel crowd booed. The best strikes occurred in the final 30 seconds with both men on their feet.

After the fight, Branch called for his own title shot.

  1. Ddddddd says:

Man GSP, how can you dominate someone like that and not finish. I hate to sound like Dana but does Filho really think he’s big enough for 85? At least give him a stand up brawler so we can see some crazy Sh!t.
