VIDEO | Explosive Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto fight highlight

By Russell Ess - May 2, 2016

A boxing rematch between two former champions took place over the weekend with the Premier Boxing Champions on FOX card.

A rematch between Victor Ortiz (31-6-2, 24 KOs) vs. Andre Berto (31-4, 24 KOs) took place and it was an exciting fight that took place as the main event in California’s StubHub Center.

Ortiz found success early on in the fight putting Berto down in the second round. However, Berto was able to come back and hurt Ortiz in the fourth round that ultimately led to Ortiz not answering the referee if he wanted to continue to fight.

“I told myself, ‘I’m not going to let him recover from this one,'” said Berto, who knocked down Ortiz twice in their first bout (transcribed by Yahoo). “That was my mistake in the first fight, letting him get back up.”

“I think it’s one of the most satisfying wins of my career, just because he gave me my first loss, and it’s been looming for years,” Berto said. “I just felt like it was something I had to do, and it was something the fans wanted as well.”

Ortiz said he never saw the uppercut coming from Berto that hurt him in the fourth round.

“It’s one of those punches that you don’t see coming, you know?” Ortiz said about the uppercut that led to the first knockdown. “He is not a guy that hits soft. Every punch he throws is 100 miles an hour so he is one heck of a champ for a reason.”

Berto could face the WBC welterweight champion, Danny Garcia next. Garcia was sitting ringside for the fight. No official announcement has been made on the bout.
