Boxing Beat: Thai Promoters Seeking Muay Thai vs. Boxing Match With Manny Pacquiao

Style vs. Style, Sport vs. Sport or Nation vs. Nation?

Some of Thailand’s Muay Thai promoters are seeking a Thai vs. Filipino / Muay Thai vs. Boxing match up between their legend Buakow Por Pramuk and Boxing great, Manny Pacquiao.

The Bangkok Post has the scoop:

Somchai Charoensombat, with the backing of the Sports Writers Association of Thailand and boxing promoter Narongwas Buamas, came up with the idea and presented it to Charin Suankaew, president of the King Rama IX The Great Foundation. Dr Charin is in charge of organising the annual boxing show.

His Majesty’s 85th birthday will fall on Dec 5 but no date has yet been set for the match.

“No matter how much [money] Pacquiao demands this fight, we will make it happen,” Mr Somchai said.

Mr Somchai said contracts will be signed on Thursday in Manila.

  1. Alex says:

Manny would be tossed around like a rag doll and he probably won’t be able to walk after the first round.

  2. Brend0magic says:

Manny will be fucking mauled. God damn, what a stupid idea. UNLESS they throw him a chump, which is doubtful at best.

  3. Bitch Ass Greg J. says:

Is it going to be a boxing match or a muay thai match?..what the hell is muay thai vs boxing? One fighter gets to throw kicks and elbows while the other only gets to throw punches?..this is stupid. Why can’t they get Anderson Silva to fight that muay thai legend, Manny’s a freaking boxer.

  4. Pkq says:

How would you score the match?

  5. the original steve says:

    never gonna happen

  6. Baby J says:

it would be a exhibition 8 round boxing rules match (sparring session) if it even happens, this is more of a political move to improve relations between the Philippines and Thailand more than a style vs style fight

  7. DC says:

Manny would have the advantage in a boxing match and Buakow would have the advantage in a kickboxing match the only way you could make it a fair fight is in a MMA ring.

    • MircFSC says:

DC…are you kidding me lol boxing style head movement is eliminated cuz of head kicks. Boxers ain’t conditioned to be kicked in the legs…manny would DIE. And Manny is my 2nd favorite fighter (including mma). Supposedly manny trained MT back in the day but still..This will never happen lol

  8. 757 says:

You all have a good point but the boxing advantage would be sick. Manny moving in and out and working the jab setting up bigger punches. One punch KO for sure….Manny is to quick and moves to much. He would stay out of the clinch and move out of range in order to nullify the kicks. That jab would bust the MT fighter up

  9. Elias says:

You guys are the biggest Muay thai fan boys idiots in the world. Muay thai is terribly overrated and it proves Boxing is more useful in the UFC fighting which is “Real fighting”. Second, you guys never give Manny some credit, sure the guy is able to kick and its the second longest and strongest weapon ever, but a pro Boxer like Manny is able to set up Angles where a kick cannot travel and he will brutally end the muay thai fighter with a couple of blows and he is done! Second, yeah clinch, getting off the clinch is like getting out the punching range, example, Pacman is able to swool away from it and hit the Muay thai ribs and he won’t able to throw a punch when his hips are fucked up by a 1000 mile punches and he won’t able to balance him self, not even his legs. Second, Muay thai fighters heavily rely on kicks, meaning if they kick and miss, they are totally off balance and easy to ambush him and he’ll be dead. Elbows are devastating, but think about this way….avoiding a elbow is like avoiding a punch, and avoiding a flying knee is like avoding a flying punch, most of these Boxer have proper foot work to maintain their balance good and able to strike non-stop, and if the Muay thai fighter kicks and misses, 47% of that energy is lost, where it gives Manny a chance to beat him because he is way more conditioned

PS: I used to train Muay thai for 9 months and Boxing 9 years, I recently spared with a Muay thai fighter last 2 weeks ago and I made 2 angles and quickly ambushed him like nothing, because he kept on trying to kick me but since he kicked, I easily made him off balance and fell down.
