Boxing Beat: Pacquiao vs Bradley rematch booked
The rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley has been set according to a story by Nick Glongco of the Manila Bulletin. The two will face of on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The formal announcement will take place next week followed by a press tour starting in Los Angeles on February 4, then to New York on the 5th.
The rematch hopes to bring closure to the last bout between the two in which Bradley (31-0, 12 KO) walked away with a hugely controversial decision victory over Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO) in June of 2012. The last time that a rematch was presented to Pacquiao he declined and instead took the fight with Juan Maneul Marquez. Pacquiao got knocked out in the December bout and spent the majority of the year on the bench. He made an appearance in November however, with a victory over Brandon Rios.
In most people’s eyes, Bradley was not deserving of the credit for beating Pacquiao. However, Bradley continued to come out victories during 2013 and made his way back to a rematch with Pacquiao by defeating dangerous Russian fighter Ruslan Provodnikov. The bout became a quick front-runner for “Fight of the Year”. He followed that win with a decision victory over Marquez in October on Pay-Per-View.
Marquez has verbalized that he would like a rematch with either opponent however, neither want to take the fight. So, it seems that the most logical matchup is the rematch between Pacquiao and Bradley (that is unless Mayweather steps ups, which isn’t likely to happen). This leaves Marquez in a questionable spot with Pacquiao having no desire to continue his rivalry, and Bradley not taking the bait either, Maquez may look to end his career in boxing.
