Bobby Green Steps in For Injured Jamie Varner, Faces Pat Healy at UFC on Fox 9

Bobby Green has stepped up on a month’s notice to take on Pat Healy in December’s UFC on Fox 9 card.

Jamie Varner was originally slated to fight Pat Healy, but a torn rotator cuff will put him out of commission for at least six weeks, Varner tweeted.

Bobby Green, the Strikeforce veteran and two-time UFC winner fought just six days ago, where he beat James Krause by a controversial TKO finish. Green landed two accidental groin kicks, and a point was taken away for the second strike. The final kick of the fight that dropped Krause face-first on the canvas was one that left UFC color commentator Joe Rogan and many fans alike claiming it was an illegal groin strike. Veteran UFC referee John McCarthy believed the kick landed on the belt line, and gave the victory to Green.

Healy looks to get back on track in his UFC career after a tough 2013 run. His first fight in the UFC was a victory against Jim Miller, but was overturned after a drug test showed he had marijuana metabolites in his system. That failed drug test also caused him to have his two fight night bonuses taken away as well. His most recent fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov didn’t go his way either, as the undefeated Russian fighter went home with the unanimous decision win.

UFC on Fox 9 takes place Dec. 14 in Sacramento, Calif.
