‘BIG’ JOHN MCCARTHY BOOK-SIGNING SCHEDULED FOR ‘SALUTE TO SERVICE’ SHOW ON SEPT. 11

As part of the University of MMA’s ‘Salute to Service’ event on September 11, 2011 at Avalon Hollywood, MMA’s most celebrated and respected referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy will participate in a pre-event book-signing of his new autobiography LET’S GET IT ON!: The Making of MMA and Its Ultimate Referee. The book-signing will take place from 3:00-4:00pm, just prior to the fights, in the venue’s front lobby area.
Let’s Get It On will be available for purchase at the ‘Salute to Service’ book signing, with proceeds doing to the Lone Survivor Foundation, a federally approved 501c3 non-profit with a vision to help wounded members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. It can also be purchased at Amazon.com and bookstores worldwide.
The Lone Survivor Foundation helps military personnel who are returning from overseas assignments adjust and re-acclimate to post-military life in America. Their mission is to ‘restore, empower, and renew hope for our wounded warriors and their families through health, wellness, and therapeutic support.’
Co-written by veteran MMA journalist Loretta Hunt (Becoming the Natural: My Life In and Out of the Cage), Let’s Get It On! is one of the most anticipated MMA biographies to be released. This 420-page book follows chronicles the McCarthy’s law enforcement career before MMA, the countless stories and adventures within the sport, and his personal insight and reflections on his rise to becoming MMA’s preeminent referee. McCarthy also gives his own accounts of the biggest matches of his officiating career, such as Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock, Royce Gracie vs. Matt Hughes, and Randy Couture vs. Tim Sylvia.
With a record of officiating over 1,500 MMA bouts, ‘Big John’ is considered the world’s preeminent MMA referee. Dating back to his first assignment at UFC 2 in 1994, McCarthy has played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in the development of rules and regulations in the sport, including the name change from its previous ‘No Holds Barred’ and ‘cagefighting’ aliases.
Today, McCarthy still contributes to the standardization and expansion of MMA, running a successful training program for referees and judges at his Big John McCarthy’s Ultimate Training Academy.
