Betting Odds Show Barao as -300 Favorite Over Faber at UFC 169
Following the announcement that Dominick Cruz was relinquishing his UFC bantamweight belt after an injury forced him out of UFC 169, the odds-makers have been busy analyzing the event’s new main event – a rematch between Renan Barao (above) and Urijah Faber for Barao’s new and much-deserved bantamweight title.

It was no question that long-time UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao was a favorite over his next opponent, Urijah Faber. The question was, by what degree? Both men have seen incredible momentum since they last fought in 2012.
That fight at UFC 149 earned Barao the UFC interim title. For the next year and a half, he would essentially be the king of the 135-lb. weight division. All he needed was a shot at the title holder, Dominick Cruz, so the two could unify Cruz’s belt and Barao’s interim title.
And that fight was finally set for next month, after Cruz underwent two separate surgeries on his ACL; but a recent groin injury to Cruz has forced the champion to not only withdraw from the fight, but to vacate his belt to the interim champion Barao.
Now Barao will have his first fight as UFC bantamweight champion against Urijah Faber, a man who has not lost since they last fought. In fact, Faber’s momentum has seen the ‘California Kid’ go through four opponents with three submission wins.
All of this, undoubtedly, was put into consideration before the betting odds were released for this bout. According to Best Fight Odds, Barao is a -300 favorite, and Faber a +240 underdog.
For those looking to bet, that means a winning $300 bet on Barao would win $100; and a winning $100 bet on Faber would win $240.
UFC 169 takes place Super Bowl weekend at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on February 1, 2014. The main card will air live on Pay Per View with preliminary bouts airing online and on FOX Sports 1.
