The odds are against Frankie Edgar as the betting lines open for UFC 153. Not only does Frankie have to cut to 145 lbs he is facing the reigning featherweight champion Jose Aldo in his home territory – Brazil. Aldo opened as a -175 favorite while Edgar + 145 underdog. Source: bestfightingodds.com

I think Fankie will ahve a hard time runnung away from Aldo and stealing a decision as he did in most of his fights at LW. Aldo’s leg kicks will take out his wheels like it did to Faber who also does alot of runninga way. Everyone will be crying and feeling sorry for Frankie and he ‘s limping around in 5th and Aldo will prob need a finish cause judges tend to fell sorry for Edgar also. lets hope Aldo gets afair shake with judges. Please no more rematches. Frankies legacy will be rematch after rematch. Should have never been a 3rd maynard fight, should have never been a2nd Bendo fight. NO other fighter in UFC history has ever had Dana wrapped around hsi little finger like Frnkie does. He’s like the youngest spoiled kid of a family that always gets his own way. REgardless Frankie’s career will be over in a few years because he has sustained at least a dozen concussions in last 3 -4 yrs and i see him having some really bad neurological problems in his late 30′smuch like a man 3 times his size has right now Gary Goodrich who actually probably took less damage per lb than edgar. Aldo by 5 round beatdown Fankie leaves cage hobbling real bad and at least one judge will feel sorry for him and it will be asplit decision either way

And wrestle he will. Cardio goes to Edgar. Power goes to Aldo. Cardio+power (late rounds) goes to Edgar. (He did knock Maynard out). Speed goes to Aldo. BJJ is equal IMO. Aldo leg kicks could be the key for Aldo but if he gets taken down early, he may stop kicking. Aldo faded in late rounds to Hominick. Great great fight! I cant wait! Who wins? I have no idea.
Yeah right BJJ is equel. Aldo is a Nova Uniao bjj Blackbelt and much more experienced on ground. However Aldo’s striking mauy tai is what Edgar is going to have the most problems with. Edgar has some really skinny legs and we all saw what happen to Faber who actaully has pretty stout little 2.5″ tall legs which were already giving out on him after one round with Aldo.
Only time Aldo had any problems with his cardio was in Hominick fight where Aldo ahd been ill before the fight and had been on antibiotics for an infection that kept him from training cardio for part of his training camp . Anyone who ahs ever been on antibiotics knows makes you feel like sh’t and he put on some extra muscle during a long layoff after an injury cause the only training he was able to do was in weight room. Now everyone thinks he has horrible cardio because of one fight whihc he dominated while feeling sick as hell. If he was would have been healthy Hominick wouldn’t have lasted 3 rounds. Just wait and see all you guys exaggerating about Aldo hvaing bad cardio are going to eat your words. If UFC had smaller cage like King of the cage Edgar would get Ko’d almost every fight because he would not have the room to runa way all the time. Not great? He beat BJ Penn-Twice. That fact alone puts him among some of the all-time greats in the UFC Lightweight division. Frankie is always a tough fight for anyone, so don’t count him out of this one just yet

What played into Aldo’s favor in his prior fights is the fact that most of his opponents stayed in the pocket. After a jab, maybe with an uppercut, he gets an easy setup for a good leg kick. After the feeling out process, when an opponent learns the appropriate positioning, the strikes are not there. Evidence of this is shown in the Mark Hominick, Kenny Florian, and yes even the Chad Mendes fight. The Achilles Heel for mid range strikers are wrestlers and smart kickboxers that stay on the outside.
Aldo is a momentum fighter that struggles when his opponents dictate the pace. We usually see this in the later rounds because Aldo tends to fade from that 25lb weight cut. Jose is a momentum fighter that comes out strong, throwing everything into most of his strikes; that is not the smart way to fight a five round fight.
Stylistically, Frankie Edgar is the best match up for Aldo in the featherweight division. Kid from Kona with his two cents.

Aldo will still walk out the 145 champ. Frankie has always had the speed advantage at LW. Well, he just lost that fighting Aldo. And Aldo will also have the power advantage as well. He is actually bigger than Frankie. The cardio can go to Frankie. but i see this playing out like the Faber fight. Faber had crazy footwork and he took a beating from Aldo. Frankie got a lot of heart, but in the end Aldo will still be the boss at 145. just my opinion.

Too much Edgar lately. The only reason everyone is picking Edgar is because they don’t have any recent Aldo fights. Why wouldn’t Aldo work his cardio knowing Edgar is strong in the later rounds? How is a Muay Thai striker a “mid-range” fighter? All strikers can fight inside or on the outside.

Too many people underestimating edgar as if he doesn’t go out to finish fights and like his hands aren’t accurate as shit. Aldo is a beast no doubt, but I’m not counting edgar out when I’ve seen him damn near knocked out twice and he comes back to finish his opponent and made it look easy.
