Benson Henderson: "Jones definitely got a raw deal" | UFC NEWS

“Jones definitely got a raw deal. All of the onus, all of it, was put on his shoulders. Everything. What about the co-main event? What about bringing in other guys? What about the guys getting injured? There was a lot. To place everything on his shoulders, I think, was very unfair. He’s fully within his rights to turn down a fight. Would he have won? Yeah, he probably would have won. Would it have been a smart decision to make? No, probably not. So I definitely felt bad for him.”
“Now look at it. How many guys [are turning down fights?] Some guys are turning down fights, short-notice fights, two week’s notice fights, eight day’s notice fights, five week’s notice fights because it’s not enough time to fully prepare. The rash of guys turning down fights. It happened before Jones. It wasn’t like it’s all of a sudden, it just happens out of nowhere. It happened before Jones decided not to fight Chael Sonnen. There were plenty of guys who turned down fights off short notice. I think just the way it was played up, the way it was built in the media, and by certain people, it made it a very negative connotation, to where, ‘Oh, he turned the fight down. He ruined these fighters’ lives. He ruined all the fans and he screwed them over.’ I don’t think that’s really so much the case. Everyone has their part to play. It’s not just Jones himself in there, all by himself. It always takes two to dance.”
The UFC lightweight champion of the world, Benson Henderson, recently discussed the Jon Jones UFC 151 fiasco with MMAFighting.com.
Is the champ right in his opinion of the UFC’s handling of Jones?

This argument is BS…how can you claim a world champion is justified in turning down a fight when he has had a full 3 months notice. Change of opponent, yes…but not a short notice fight. No champion should turn down any opponent in his weight class. Of course he would like more time to train specifically for his opponent, but that’s not an excuse in the 151 scenario
yup
Jones is so good that he could’ve fought anybody that day and still won in spectacular fashion. He declined to fight Chael out of spite, he did not want to give Chael a free shot at the title and get more media exposure. It was selfish of Bones to do that, and that’s why people were pissed. If you’re a real MMA fan you would be sure that there was no way in hell Chael was gonna win that fight. I was hoping that Jones took the fight to shut Sonnen up but instead took a different approach. He didn’t break any rules but he violated a champion’s code by refusing to step up to a challenger.
“champion code” your a ****ing retard
I’m sorry, I mean I’m the retard trynna act tough on the internet to compensate for an extremely tiny penis and ultra low self esteem, that’s why I enjoy sucking on my daddy’s d!ck
uh-oh….voicing of your own opinion when it’s different from Dana’s cannot be good.
True but Henderson is right. Jones has the right to turn down any fight he doesnt want to take. And dana and the rest of us have the right to call him a bitch and be pissed at him for doing it
He got himself a strong ennemy in Dana White by telling the truth about “certain people” exaggerating things and not taking their responsabilities
Anyway big up for Bendo, he has the balls to say the truth. (He doesn’t even belong to Jones camp)
It’s all bla bla bla because it wasn’t short notice. He had a full camp, it was just a different opponent. Short notice means taking a fight being unprepared and no time for a proper camp.
Jon Jones had a proper camp, was in shape and ready to fight.
Exactly it wasn’t short notice for Jones he was the one on the card supposed to fight, it is asking other guys to come in on short notice Mr. Henderson, perhaps you should worry about Nick Diaz an not put your 2 cents in when your a champo and should keep your mouth shut, or the hand that feeds you might bite it off.
I think if anything a champion in the UFC has a right to his opinion on how another UFC champion conducts himself. You guys all hate on peoples opinions and then say why don’t you guys go fight. This guy is a fighter, you don’t have to agree but don’t disrespect him either. Also it’s Nate he fight genius.
Stop crying. Perhaps you should keep your 2 cents to yourself and get your shit right. It’s Nate Diaz.
151 was just a bad scene all around. I’m not a huge Jones fan, but I also can’t lay the entire cancellation on him either. Sure he had a full camp and myself I feel the Champ should fight whoever is put in front of them. But… was Jones vs Sonnen a fight I was dying to see? Not really. I’m sure all parties involved have looked at this scenario and will take measures to prevent this from happening again.
It’s only my opinion, but I feel Jones takes a lot of criticism from the older generation of MMA fans (myself included) because he has quite handily defeated some very popular fighters from the recent past. For me watching him choke out Machida was brutal, but that’s just how it goes. Many say Jones is fake and cocky and I won’t necessarily disagree, but he is also a young fighter. At his age I said a lot of misinformed things as well, we all have.
When we take a step back and get the whole picture, everyone in the organization from under card fighters, coaches, trainers, and even the UFC brass ALL work their asses off to provide a great experience for the fans. Mistakes will be made, but that is how we learn.
I think this is one time I’ll disagree with Bendo. I think he got it mixed up with his opponent having short notice. Jones had a full camp. I get you prepare for a certain opponent and Sonnen has a slight different style than Hendo but Jones was in shape and not injured. I think he could’ve done it but that’s all in the past now and it is what it is.
I think Benson should be thinking about his fight Diaz not swallowing Jones dick
Closet queer! Stop aligning your gay thoughts with fighter quotes.
hahahahahah i agree 110% Diaz is gonna smash him and take that belt, i like ben a lot he is a great fighter , but he aint beating Nate Diaz. he should hop on jones d*ck and def worry about his own fight.
There DMAC goes to swallow Jones and Bendos dick because there both black.Biase dick head
I don’t get down with that gay shit kid, I mean really how you sound even saying that! Your such a narrow minded bigot you only see one way, pure ignorance. Not once have I ever mentioned race on this site, I like fighters for who they are and how they perform not skin color. So shut that narrow minded mouth and go make some friends of color we don’t bite!
i mostly agree with your statement but the fact that you called someone queer makes you ignorant as well. so if youre gonna judge people dont sound like a retard asshole and get all pissy when they judge you gaylord
omg take his ****ing **** out of your throat
I don’t like Hendo, or Jones that much. But I do agree with him on this, its not all on Jones’ shoulders. Just because he’s a champ doesn’t mean he cant make the same decision’s as the rest of the fighters on the roster. Yeah most people in his position would of accepted the fight, but in the end it was his choice. I love watching UFC but in no means do I know that much about fighting. I just love watching the sport. Haters gonna hate..
I gotta stop reading all these comments. You ****ing keyboard warriors make me laugh. You don’t know what’s going on in another humans life. You have no ****ing idea what it’s like to fight. Just keep on typing. Get out and do something.
Nice one alfredo, all those letters on your keyboard and all you could come up with is the word retard..lmfao..you need more school time son.
Instead of talking about other champions, how about u say a word or two about robbing Edgar from the title. Nate is going to fix the lightweight division up real good. Damn I would have loved to see Frankie and Nate bash. There would have been fireworks!
Edgar lost get over it. And even if he didn’t lose it’s poetic justice since he robbed several others by bullshit decisions.
